Hey i have an SKS and i recently installed a muzzle brake for it. I had to size the brake on and i tapped it on with a hammer. looks good and all, but i wanted to take it off just because... turns out it was on pretty good, so i took a grip wrench and tried to pull it off at an angle and i swear i saw the barrel warp... am i just high?! how could it bend? it does not look bent... Is this possible?

Notice that long sharpie thingie folded up under the barrel with a point on it?

That's called a "bayonet".

It's meant to stab things at high speed with lots of force. BIG hurt!

Notice that it's fastened to the barrel?

Now what do you think the chances are that the folks who made that rifle would fasten something like that to the barrel if the barrel was so easily bent?

Strip it down and look down the bore with a flashlight at the other end. If it looks ok, have fun shooting it.

Yep, I have an Yugo SKS that I got from Bubba and he bent the barrel doing the same thing. That's what happens when Bubba gets hold of things!.....LOL

I haven't even thought about getting around to fixing that one yet. When you find a source for new barrrels, let me know will you?

You should be able to look down the barrell with the reciver off and bolt out.....do it in bright light and you maybe can see any bends. If it looks cool, shoot it and see how she does, you may be lucky.

How did it shoot before you put on the muzzle break and how does it shoot now? Yes it's possible, if you had your gun clamped close to the muzzle break you'll be OK if not you might have bent the barrel but you need a lot of force. Take a ruler and run it down your barrel and see it there's constant contact.

Oh yeah, you can bend a barrel real easy!! It's just a hollow tube and it is surprising how easily it is done.
I got a heck of a deal on a used Remington 1100 shotgun because the previous owner (a true barbarian) hacksawed (!!?) the barrel to 18 inches and bent the barrel in the process. At 25 yards, it would shoot a slug low and left about one and a half feet.
Good luck on replacing that barrel. . .

Place your gun in a gun vice and take a Lazar bore siter and at close range 15 0r 20 feet and compare this can be done with iron sites for another opinion take it to a professional gun smith and they can tell you for sure.
But by all means do not shoot this gun until you have found if it is safe. ( This could be extremely dangerous it could possibly
hurt you or some one else dispose of it, better yet destroy it.)

Yes, it's possible. There's flip every time you put a round through it, too.On the other hand, an SKS is such a piece of crap you probably didn't hurt its shootability any.
