Cats are nocturnal creatures, meaning they are active during nighttime hours. They tend to sleep a lot during night hours also, though, because their owners usually sleep during those hours.

I have a four month old kitten and he is up all night, and sleeps most of the day. He has a little bell on his collar and I can hear it all night long. Cats are just naturally nocturnal and play and "hunt" throughout the night. I read somewhere that they sleep somewhere around 16 hours a day. I hope this helps a little bit.

Hey, cat do what they want to do. If your want to sleep all the time, I would guess there is nothing that is stimulating for the cat, so therefore he sleeps. I hope this answers your question.

Mine doesn't. I wish he would he's all over the house and me. He follows me everywhere. To the computer, laundry and to bath and to bed. No I really love him he's a 4 month old kitten with lots of energy.
They will sleep more after they have been spaded, or neutered.

Cats are great hunters, and they are so effective at catching prey, that they have time to cat nap. See the link below. It explains other things about cats, like why their tongues feel like sandpaper.

They normally hunt at night, so they sleep most of the day waiting for night to wander and hunt.
