a small amount of cumin will definitely add that spice (without the acid)! will taste like taco seasoning if ever had. Cumin be a light well seasoned taste from the mild area of the pepper adds enough spice and be not to spicy. Curry can suck on a vegetable plain and end up tasting bitter due to the turmeric added with certain foods like carrots.

A squeeze of fresh lemon juice is good on most vegetables. Or try a few shakes of some different vinegars , if you have them; balsamic, malt vinegar , white wine vinegar, etc

instead of steaming the veggies, you could saute them in a little bit of olive oil (add garlic and/or onion for more flavor). that way, they are good to eat by themselves, or with cooked pasta...you could also add a little balsamic vinagrette for a flavor boost.
& i am a huge fan of sea salt and black pepper, so you could always add a bit of both of those to enhance the flavor.
happy cooking! :)
