I'm building a bathroom vanity and would like to use a rich espresso stain. What is the best type of wood to use that will absorb the espresso stain well and leave a smooth finish?

Maple doesn't have a strong grain pattern and would blend beautifully with the espresso stain.

maple is a closed grain wood so it may look good with your stain,it will not absorb the stain as well as some other woods so you may have to leave it on a little longer before you wipe it off, oak absorbs stain easily but some do not like its heavy grain pattern,so I would suggest alder,a nice looking wood that takes stain easily.....painting and woodfinishing contractor.
