You can get a night guard from your dentist/orthodontist that will save your teeth at night. Additionally, you need to learn how to handle stress and de-stress before bed. There is a reason for the grinding.
The thrashing may be from something bothering you and at night while you are sleeping, it comes out in the form of physical movements. What is going on in your life that could be creating this? Maybe some talk therapy with a good counselor might help to bring these things to light and therefore end the night thrashing.

Hello! Here's how I approach this condition with my patients:
1) Check for parasites. Believe it or not, jaw grinding can be a result of parasites in the intestines. If this is the case, I put my patient on a detox diet, and herbs to eliminate the bugs.
2) Jaw grinding emotionally relates to desire for revenge. Reflect on why you're angry, and feeling powerless. Therapy can help with these issues. Say to yourself, "I speak with love."
3) I perform massage along the scalenes (neck muscles), traps (shoulders), and using a gloved hand, work inside the mouth to release a patient's jaw.
Wishing you well,
Doc M

Have you tried a mouth guard like football players buy? You can purchase them for about $2.00, dip it in hot water, stick it in your mouth, so it molds to your teeth, wear it only with u sleep. Works for my 10 year old!

have a dentist make you a mouthguard specifically designed to your mouth... if you rather go a cheaper more uncomfortable rout, go to a sporting store and pick one up for like 8 bucks
