Mary is the mother of Jesus. Jesus means savior “.Mat 1:21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.”
But Mary is not God she just conceive the body of the human form of Jesus “Luke 1:31 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.
1:32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:
Jesus is God who took the form of the human it was written in “Philippians 2:5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
2:6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
2:7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
2:8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

Because Mary is still just a another dead saint in the grave. No more no less. All she was for Jesus was a surrogate mother, that's all she was intended to be, nothing special. So she was His mother, so what!... Mary has never had any divinity. She lived and she died and she is still in the grave just like the rest of the world that has ever lived and died.......Jesus is the only mortal soul that has ever ascended into heaven! That is a Biblical fact!!.......All the saints of God are merely "asleep" where their soul rests in the grave until the return of Christ. There is no one in heaven that has ever lived and died except Jesus Christ! Calling Mary the Mother of God is an abomination to God and God will deal with that in His own way. It's not even Biblically correct to use the term Mary Mother of God. Nowhere will you find that in the Bible!!..... Defending Jesus Christ with a dead saint, it doesn't matter who it is, It's just plain silly! It is also blasphemous to use the Lord's name in vein!!.......The whole RCC is already condemned by God and those others aren't far behind. They are full of heresies and abominations against God. They shall surly see their own destruction

The term is inaccurate for the very reason you state - that God has no mother. Mary is the mother of Jesus' fleshly body. It was this very term that offended Mohammed 1300 years ago, resulting in the formation of Islam. I would say this contradicts your last assertion, that it fights those who deny the divinity of Christ. It is nothing but religious sentimentalism, and I am convinced the term is in no way endearing to either God or Mary.

The only correct answer is a theologically accurate answer which exists only for the Orthodox faith and no one else. Everyone else has encountered some error in defining the Virgin Mary.
First of all, the Virgin Mary is referred to as the "Theotokos" or bearer of God.
Just as God made Adam and Eve from dust - the Holy Spirit descended on the Virgin Mary and conceived the Christ child.
Just as Jesus existed along God and the Holy Spirit at the Creation, Jesus also spoke to Moses from the burning bush because he was the burning bush.
The prophets Isaiah and others prophesized a Virgin Birth where the Christ child would be named Emmanuel. The Christ child was going to be the new King of Israel; However, in case the Jews rejected Christ as their King, the gospel would be proclaimed to all people and all nations would become children of Abraham. Let's not forget that God chose Israel as his people and wished to eliminate the Canaanites and other people who led Israel to sin.
Therefore, when Gabriel informed the Virgin Mary that she was going to bear the Saviour of the World in Jesus Christ, human flesh formed in Mary's womb just as God formed Adam from dust.
When Christ was born in a painless labor (contrasted with Eve's painful labors after being evicted from Paradise for sin), all creation worshipped the Christ child. After all, he was the son of God AND God in the flesh - just as Adam was in the flesh before he sinned. The Virgin Mary became the Mother of God because she gave birth to God in the flesh. The Virgin Mary became the new Eve giving birth to the tree of life in Paradise, which was still being guarded by a flaming sword.
After the Virgin Mary died, her body laid in a tomb for 3 days and was taken straight up to heaven where she sits with Christ at his right hand side. There are many myths, legends and half-truths which resulted in these differing views regarding Mary. Of course, Islam is #1 when they say that there is no God but Allah and Muhammad is his prophet - their argument is that God has no mother and that Mary gave birth to another prophet rather than the Messiah. This is where things stand.
During Lent, the Orthodox honor the Virgin Mary for the first 5 Fridays in Lent with Salutations services. The Orthodox hold the Virgin Mary in high esteem; they do not view her as taking down Christ's dead body from the cross per the Catholic tradition. Yes, the Mother of God mourned her son's passing but rejoiced at his triumphant Resurrection from the dead.

Because Jesus wasn't 50% human and 50% God...He was 100% human and 100% God. Jesus talks about being one with the Father but never with His mother.

It's because they feel that "God" has no mother, and that Mary was only the mother of the human 'body' of Christ. They feel that elevating her to "mother of God" smacks of Paganism.
Then again, if Jesus called Mary "mother", and if Jesus is God, I don't see what the problem is.

for me, it's just because it's technically incorrect. Mary was the mother of Jesus' human body, not Jesus' soul/spirit or the Holy Spirit or God the Father. To call her the mother of God, sounds like calling her the mother of all of God, and God has no ancestor.

I don't believe there is a problem with the name and you have a good point.....but what is wrong is the way it is implied.....ie. that Mary is the only mediator.....never sinned etc. this contradicts the Bible where it says that the only way to God is through Jesus and that all have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God

Because the Sacred Scriptures plainly declare in many passages that the Blessed Virgin is the Mother of God.
The angel Gabriel said to Mary: "Behold thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and shalt bring forth a Son and thou shalt call His name Jesus. . . . The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Most High shall overshadow thee. And, therefore, also the Holy that shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God"
The saintly Elizabeth greeted Mary with the words: "Whence is this to me that the Mother of my Lord shall come to me?" St. Paul says that "God sent His Son, made of a woman"
