Yes, other banks could find out and they may not let you open an account until you clear them up. You can also go to jail for bounced checks b/c it's considered theft.

I saw 5 answers and I hate to say that you all are kind of wrong here. The Banks in thsi country have a little credit type burea of there own it is known as Checksystems. Even bouncing one check for 2.00's can Put you into a seriously bad situation with all banks that use checksystems. If youd like to research this go to the checksystems website. Google it. When you google it you will be given literally dozens of sites dedicated to fighting back against checksystems as well as checksystems website. That single bad check if reported by the person you bounced it to will keep almost all cionventional banking systems from accepting your account application. I am not kidding about this these people "Checksystems" can ruin your banking future relegating you to these other Checksystem free banks that are also listed in the google search. They charge astronomical fees and there is littlle that you can do to fight the checksystem company becasue they hide behind a rue that they basically made up. It states when you apply for an account and get denied, that the bank made the dicision based on their (the banks) policy not the checksystems report. yeah right. You can then and ONLY then request the information that checksystems has against you ( good luck getting it) The checksystems company makes millions of dollars from guess where THE BANKS> YES this could be bad for you. I hope you don't have to deal with what I went through because someone held a check of mine for 16 dollars for 8 months before they cashed it and it caught me at the end of the month when I had paid all my bills. I had forgotten all about it and just screwed up. It took me 5 months of bullshit and 300 dollars to an attorny to get this taken care of. Then I got a new bank account. Research this. Its really quite scary what they are doing..

Most banks subscribe to a service called check-systems. It is a database that allows financial institutions to report bad checking accounts where they have lost money. Most banks will not open a new account if you have a bad check-systems rating. If you bounce a check and repay all fees and the overdraft, it should not be reported to check-systems nor affect your ability to open new accounts. Also, remember that a bank can sue you for the amount owed, plus legal fees. The resulting judgment will be placed on your credit record and will negatively affect your credit rating with all creditors.

It could affect your credit rating, but not very much since its only two checks. Just as long as you don't make this a habit. If you repay them in a timely matter your other bank will never find out.

Most everyone bounces a check sometime during a lifetime of writing checks. If you take care of them before the businesses have to track you down, there should be no problem. If you end up in court, then, yeah, it will haunt you for a very long time.
