You might want to check out Shareaza. It also runs on the Gnutella network but also connects to Gnutella2 and e-donkey. It also serves as a fairly good torrent client. His dessent.net for the 411 on torrents.
For a stand alone torrent client, try Utorrent.
You might also add PeerGuardian2 to the list. PG2 blocks such nosy neighbors as the RIAA and other busy-bodies who love to harass the P2P community. Also: Keep your anti-virus updated and scan each and every file you download.
