'Um Atiyyat al-Ansariyyah said: A woman used to perform circumcision in Medina. The Prophet (pbuh) said to her: Do not cut too severely as that is better for a woman and more desirable for a husband'." 1,8

One interpretation of this passage is that the woman was going to proceed with the circumcision anyway; Muhammad suggested that she remove a smaller amount of her genitalia than she had perhaps intended to.

Are there any women other than Muslims have undergone circumcision??!!... Is there any health reason as men have with their foreskin??

Read the article at... http://www.light-of-life.com/eng/reveal/r5405et7.htm But what is the reason underlying the circumcision of girls, which is applied in some Islamic countries? The first reason is the statement of Muhammad: "Circumcision is a law for men and a preservation of honour for women." The second reason lies in the supposition that circumcision makes a woman more enjoyable, provided that it is practised moderately. Umm `Atiyya the Ansarite narrated that a woman used to circumcise in Medina, and the Prophet said to her, "Do not overdo it, because this makes woman more favourable and it is more agreeable for the husband." As to the third reason why a female should be circumcised, it is to "diminish her lust", and to "tone down the sexual desire of the woman."

Al-Mawardi tells us how female circumcision is performed: "It is performed by cutting a piece of flesh over the vulva topping the entrance of the penis [that is the vagina]. It is homologous to a kernel or the crest of a rooster. One should cut the upper part of it, and not completely remove it." Al-Shafi`i and most of his followers hold that circumcision is obligatory, as well as `Ata´, one of the old scholars. Ahmad and some of the Malikites hold that it is obligatory, while Abu Hanifa says that it is obligatory, yet it is not a ritual obligation. One Hadith says that it is sin to discard it. The Shafi´ites say that it is improper [to do such a thing] to women. Most scholars and some Shafi´ites hold that it is not obligatory. Jurisprudents say that the circumcision of men, namely removing the foreskin, is a prophylactic procedure that keeps the body healthy. Female circumcision, they say, is otherwise, since removing the clitoris helps only to reduce the libido of the woman but does not do away with it, which is for the common good of society, and for her own good as well. It can also preserve the woman's dignity and honour.
As we mentioned previously, the main reason for the circumcision of girls, according to the jurists, is to restrain lust or the sex drive. For the girl nowadays is exposed to all kinds of temptations, they argue, which lead to depravity and corruption in society. Lastly, we learn from Shaltut that women accept circumcision willingly to honour their husbands, as they also hate to look at that part of the flesh that would increase the enjoyment of man when removed.

There is no reason for this. The idea is that it dulls the sensation of sex and prevents orgasm because "it's a bad thing" (but mostly for domination purposes), but I've heard of studies showing it makes no difference- women orgasm the same.

HOWEVER, while there is no real side-effect, MANY TIMES complications occur if not done properly.

Female circumcision for "hygiene purposes" is a complete lie. The vagina is a "self-cleaning oven." It needs no help cleaning itself other than a scrub now and then to remove possible bacteria that may have entered and might cause an infection.

Oh, and also- in today's daily-bath-and-antibacterial world, male circumcision is equally ridiculous and a very outdated method. There is no evidence that supports the idea that males who got their skin removed have any less infections than uncut males.

These are pretty much barbaric acts and have no reason to still be in practice... unless your doctor still uses leeches as a medical tool.

It does not mention anywhere in Quran about women getting circumcised! You are quoting Hadith, which is different from Quran. Even from those Hadith one thing is evident that Prophet Muhammad is at least somewhat against circumcision.

EDIT: Contrary to what dmkl2 is saying, circumcision has shown to greatly reduce infections in men. And this was published in a big study recently done in Africa. Men who underwent circumcision had a far less chance of getting AIDS.

do you have the verse and chapter of that passage, cause that sound like a Hadith to me, and not all muslims follow all Hadith.
I am not Muslim bu am circumcised. I think that women would find it gross to see a bunch of skin hanging down there. I think there is a health reason for it, but i don't know what it is. Maybe male doctors just say that because they have to look at that area.

I am not Muslim and will tell you this procedure is for men only.. Thee are no health benefits for women.. the only thing it does is strip them selves so there female organ/s. The woman will not get aroused and therefore will not think about having affairs. This circumcision cuts out the clitoris... this is like cutting off the penis. The inner and outer labia can also be cut out for this procedure. it is disgusting and horrible for women to go through and should be banned!!!

People said it's to prevent women to enjoy sexual pleasures... but... errr.. (after hanging out with women from Turkey, Malaysia, Indonesia etc. who were born as moslems) that myth didn't seem to be right. Apparently they still enjoy 'it' the same, if not more. Those women told me that it's easier for them to clean up, my guess will be like yours, the same health reason like foreskin circumcision for men.

However I've seen documentary in Africa how they did it with primitive equipment and lmost of little girls wounds were get infected! Of course in that case, the myth is correct.

Female circumcision is not a Muslim thing. It happens in conservative communities in African countries. It has not been linked to Islam nor Christianity. I don't know where you pulled out this passage. Is it a narrative from a different author ?

The idea behind female circumcision is to remove the clitoris and part of the labia, thus removing any pleasure from sexual intercourse. This is a brutal and unnecessary procedure that is done purely to make women more submissive.

Actually, the answer is NO.

In Islam it is required for men to do so because it's one of the ways of purification, but not women.

If I'm not wrong, circumcision shouldn't be done for women (at all).

One peice of advice to you... don't believe all that you see, things like these must come from reliable sources.

Peace.

I am a Muslim and I was circumsized when I was a baby.
My sex desire still the same and I got orgasm after orgasm the same. And maybe because I got fantastic orgasm all the times that i can never get enough of sex from my husband.
I wonder why people said it
will dull the sex desire and no orgasm????

Oh ya..Quran does not mentioned this.
This is done due to some culture of man.
