Paul Mitchell has a product out that's wave pomade or curl pomade.........something to that effect. I usually wash my hair, then apply the a mousse, then braid my hair in 9 equal sections and sit under a dryer............after drying I apply the pomade to my freshly dry crimped hair.......................

You can get a perm not a relaxer like Wave Noveau. This product will give you a wet look. You can also go from wet to a relax look with this product. The only drawback to this product is a person can't wear a relaxer. The relaxed hair must be cut off to keep the perm from overlapping preventing breakage. Otherwise try two strands with rollers on the ends. Put setting lotion like Lottabody or gel for hold while hair is wet let it dry, take it down and go.

If you want to achieve the "wavy" look, I usually wash my hair and treat it as usual, then I begin to twist the hair to my scalp as if cornrowing (using only two strands of hair instead of three) depending on how much "wave" you want you should section your hair smaller for more waves and larger for less wave.

I can only think of the jheri curl or waves, but don't know if they still make those type of products. May want to check with your hairdresser and/or look for photos of the look you want and show him/her to see if it can be duplicated on you.
