You will not get a house or an apartment.

You will live in the barracks and most likely have a roommate.

Think College Dorm Room.

Some barracks are nice, some are not.

Yes, housing is free.

You will live in a barracks also known as a BEQ, Bachelors Enlisted Quarters. Based on pay grade you will have a room mate or more than one. Yes it's free. It depends on where you are stationed on how nice they are, but in general they are nice to very nice. You will eat in the Galley on base more than likely because the rooms are rooms that may only have a small refrigerator. Food is also free at the Galley. Once you get on base and check in they should assign you a place to live in the process. You will hear the phrase rank has its privileges, this is one of them. The more senior you are and higher pay grade you are the better the housing gets. At E5 and above you get paid to live out in town. Until then you live in a room with other people. Don't worry it's not as bad as it sounds and everyone in the military has been there too.

Those houses and apartments are for married officers and enlisted with kids. The officers will get the houses and the enlisted will get the apartments.

If you are single, you will live in the barracks for free. Which will range from an open squadbay to small rooms that you share with 2 to 4 other people.

Squadbays consists of a couple of dozen racks (bunk beds) and a couple of dozen wall lockers all in one big open room. Barracks rooms consist of 2 to 4 racks with wall lockers and a small desk and a shared bathroom.

You will rarely have a room by yourself in the Marine Corps. Almost never.

Most guys find someone they like and get an apartment offbase so they can have their own room and not have to deal with barracks life which gets old after awhile. So they have a barracks room they are assigned but they never live in. Which makes it easier to clean for inspection since no one ever stays in there to mess it up.

Biggest factor is your rank.

I'm assuming that you are a new enlistee.

As such you will live in a barracks. Barracks can vary from post to post or even bulding to building. I've been in some pretty cruddy ones, but most of them are a lot like dorm rooms.

A lot depends on how long you are going to be there. I was in temporary housing at a base in Kuwait that was just a warehouse full of bunkbeds. People who were there on long term assignments got rooms. They had to share a small room but they got a TV/DVD player, a rug, etc.

Some barracks have two small rooms that share a bathroom and each guy gets his own room. Some have two guys in a room and you get your own bed, space, and locker. On very rare occasions I've seen situations where off post housing was obtained. It was two bedroom apartments, everbody got their own bedroom but they shared the living room. Some of the Junior Enlisted had lots of loud parties and they managed to get themselves thrown out of the apartment complex which was embarrising to the service, so all the junior enlisted had to move back into the barracks on post.

Of course none of this matters until AFTER you complete basic training.

Hey,

Im stationed on Camp Lejeune Marine Corps Base. If you are single you will be living in the barracks. think of the barracks as a big male dorm. you will have a small room that you will share with 2 other room mates. there will be 3 beds 3 secretaries 3 dressers 1 sink 1 shower and 3 wall lockers. Im with the infantry and thats what we get. if you decide to go into the marine corps aviation they have a little nicer accommidations. you will get your room as soon as you check into your unit. every thursday night is field day. thats where you and your room mates stay up will 10:00 cleaning your room. it will get inspected the next morning. have fun. it sucks. you will not be charged for your room. you will get paid an extra $8.00 a month to buy cleaning supplies to clean your room.

Pleasse talk with a recruiter to get the info-however, being a military brat, I can share some info -- when you first go in the military, you will live in barracks, with all the other guys in your platoon. It will be free. It's boot camp. Basic training. I know that in the Navy there are Bachelor Officer Barracks, which is a single room, nice, small, but nice. For non-com, I don't know. Please be sure that when you talk with a recruiter on this, they either give it to you in writing, or no matter what, be honest with you. Or, ask someone who is in the Marines. That is not a recruiter. Thank you for signing up to serve our country. Take care.

duriong Boot camp, you will be in open bay barracks

during school, you might have a roomate or two..or three

once you get assigned to a base, you will be living in the Barracks.. you may or may not have a roomate, or you could have your own bedroom but share a common room and kitchen and bath with others.

As a single SM, you will not be permitted to live off base until you reach a certain paygrade, possibly E4 or E5

No base housing is only for married couple and in most case the more children you have the faster you will get it. You will live in BEQ which is bachelor enlisted quarters which are like college dorms. If you haven't done boot camp yet you will live in quarters with 20+ men till you finish boot camp and possible your school...if you are married you still will not get base housing till you finish school
