TAKE 4 (FOUR 200mg IBUPROFEN EVERY 4-6 HOURS) = TO 1 MOTRIN 800mg AND BECAUSE IT'S AVAILABLE AT MOST STORES IT CAN BE TAKEN W/O A PRESCRIPTION.
THE DISCOMFORT SHOULD NOT LAST FOR AS LONG AS IT HAS. VICODIN IS NOT AN ANTI-INFLAMMATORY LIKE IBUPROFEN. TYLENOL IS ALSO NOT AN ANTI-INFLAMMATORY.

Ibuprofen and acetaminophen are both anti-inflammitories/pain relievers, so you do not and should not take both together. Myself, I never had to use the vicoden after I had my wisdom teeth out, Just the extra strengh motrin that was prescribed, and then only for a week maybe. I did use the ice packs, three times a day (1/2 hr at a time) for about a week, to reduce the swelling.
I prefer to use ibuprofen for pain relief, and prefer Advil to other brands. You don't need to use as much ibuprofen as you would aceteminophen. I think it just works better and faster, and 1 pill at a time is sufficient. If you can tolerate caffiene, a cup of coffe after an Advil will increase the effect. If the pain comes back before it is time for another Advil, you can have another coffee, and get more relief. I have done this with really bad toothaches. It works really well.

The first 48 hours is when you can get dry socket. When you have it, there will be no doubt. Its one of the worse pains that a human can get and no one can stop it. After 2 weeks you should be able to smoke with out any problems at all. I am not a dentist, but I smoked 48 hours after my 4 were pulled and had no problems. This is a good time to quit smoking, you no longer have any nicotine in your body. Quit while you can. I smoked for 28 years and I was very tried of every one telling me to stop, until May 5, 2010 I had a Heart Attack that stopped my heart for 6 minutes. I heard the doctor tell every one that I was brain dead by now. Luckily one nurse didn't stop. The reason for the heart attack was due to a 99% blockage in one of the hearts main arteries. The doctor told me 2 days later that smoking narrows the arteries, so if I didn't stop smoking I would die. I have not touched a cigarette since, and my heart is fine. I can even smell the pine trees and freshly cut grass. You have done the hard part by not smoking for two weeks. This is the easy part. Start new routines that will help. Good Luck

It can take a while for the pain and swelling to go down. Probably best to alternate Ibuprofen 600-800 mg at a time three times a day with Tylenol 650 mg at a time 3 times a day. So every few hours you are taking one or the other. If you are worried about hurting your stomach, you may want to take some Pepcid or Zantac (over the counter) during this time. Do not take any other products containing Tylenol as you could accidentally overdose yourself (i.e., check all cold medicines, over the counter sleep medications, etc.).
The dosages above are assuming you are a healthy adult male who is at least normal weight. Ask your dentist or doctor if you have any questions or concerns.

You can take about 600 mg of Advil or Tylenol every 4 hrs. for the pain. Put ice packs on your jaw line too. This will help with any swelling.

Sit tight buddy. Consider yourself smart and lucky that you pulled all of them out at once. I had mine pulled out as they appeared. The pain lasts for a while, almost two weeks, but it is different for each person. Check the dosage that u r taking for the pain. Maybe you can increase the dosage, but only with doc's approval.

I had no pain after two days.... and the oral surgeon had to dig mine out... it took four hours. please call your oral surgeon... something about this does not seem quite right. You should not be having this kind of pain after six days.... there must be some sort of infection or inflammation that could be serious. Please have it checked. Take care...
