I recently came down w/ a case of laryngitis. The bad news is, I'm also the caretaker of a 3 month old boy. I am constantly in close contact w/ him because of the fact that I have to feed him, etc... How likely is it that my boy's gonna get sick now, because I have to be around him all day?

The likelihood is decent, but he might surprise you. Babies are surprisingly strong. Make sure you wash all blankets, bottles, etc. that you came into contact with while you were sick. That's a start. Lysol is also your best friend (but don't spray it anywhere near the baby, or his bed!). You can use Lysol to kill germs in other parts of the house where you've been just to make sure he won't come into contact with anything in the air, either.

If he gets sick, he needs to get to a doctor ASAP. But think of it this way: babies have to build up immunity to things eventually. He'll get sick a lot, and he won't always catch something from you. Sometimes you'll catch it from him! It's part of growing up, and as long as you're able to get him to a doctor as soon as you see sniffles starting, he'll be fine.

His immune system will be considerably stronger if he is fed breast milk. If you are only the care taker and not the parent, I would inform the parents of your illness. They might decide to have someone else watch him until you get better. But if you must be around him, wash your hands constantly and also might want to wear one of those mask things while your in close contact. It might look silly but better than having a baby come down with laryngitis. It could be very harmful to the little one. Better safe than sorry. But don't keep it from the parents that your sick, they have the right to know.

Babies have a very weak immune system, that is why they can be given blood of the wrong type and it won't affect them most of the time.
