I recently moved into a house and noticed puddles of water on my basement floor. I could not figure out where they were coming from. The previous owners had placed a non skid bathtub mat in the bathtub and something told me to pick it up and check under it. Well I discovered where the leaks were coming from. The bathtub had about 4 inch crack in the bottom of it and they had tried to use some kind of fiberglass sealant to fix it, then they placed the mat over it so I could not see it when viewing the house. Can I do anything about this now since I own the house??

It depends upon the State that you live in. Did the previous owners sign a disclosure statement warranting that to their knowledge everything was all right? Did the previous owners provide you with buyers insurance?

If you used a Real Estate Agent he is in a position to know what you can do insofar as collecting damages from the previous owner.

As a last resort if you don't wish to replace the tub right now, you might contact a local plumbing supply co. that sells tubs etc. and ask them about a repair product or what they would charge to repair it.

Did you have a disclosure statement when you bought the house? If the cracked bathtub wasn't mentioned in the disclosure, the sellers are liable for the repair/replacement. Contact your realtor.

The best way you can do, is to replace your bathtub with new one, all do it is very expensive to your side.
If you can contact the former owner you can ask them to replace. If they don't agree just take a bargain to shoulder them the ffity percent cost of the replacement of the brand new bathtub, or even they will shoulder the labor for installation.

If you have any sort of home warranty then you may have recourse. Otherwise you probably bought it as is. If so you may be out of luck. Buyer beware.
