regardless of who name do you use to pray to him, he listens and cares about your heart.

It's something having to do with the authority of Jesus' name. Jesus paid a price for our salvation. It is by His name that the prayers of Christians are accepted, because Jesus said "none may come to the Father except through me" :)

Because God is not our Father unless we have been born again. God the Father sent the Son into the world to be the Mediator between God and man.
"Neither is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name (than Jesus) under heaven, given among men whereby we must be saved."
(Acts 4:12)

We are adopted as children to God because of what Jesus has done. Everything we (christians) do in life should be as under the authority of Jesus. (in His name). God knows that when we pray, it is in the name (under the authority) of Jesus. We don't have to say those words. But we do and theres nothing wrong with it. Those folks that don't really know Jesus might be a little offended when they hear someone say, In jesus' name. But thats good for 'em.

Because you have to go through Jesus. Jesus is the only way to the Father. Pray to the Father but do it in his Son's name. It is saying that you know that God is the supreme being and you recognize Jesus as his Holy Son. You only pray to God. Many people pray to Jesus.

Jesus is our High Priest and intercedes for us. It's kind of like, even though we can approach our earthly father sometimes we check with as sibling or parent before going directly to our father.

Because Jesus is our mediator .He saved us from sin and became our Savior and anything we ask of God the Father should be asked in Jesus name.

While we don't necessarily need to add the words "in Jesus' name", we are thus reminding ourselves that it is only on account of Jesus that we can approach the Father.
