I have three tattoos and all of them are on my feet. I can't compare the pain to other tats since this is the only location I have them, but some parts hurt a lot. Any time you get near the ankle, it hurts worse.
It also depends on the location on the foot. I have one on the inside of my left foot, right under the ankle. That one hurt more than the other two which are on the top surface of the foot and it faded a lot more than the other two.
The two on the top surfaces on my feet had minimal fading, but one of my friends got theirs done in the same spot and it almost completely faded off. If you get it done on the foot, make sure you go to a place that has a free touch-up guarantee for foot tattoos (not all places will guarantee them there). This will offer you piece of mind if it does eventually fade off.
The best time of year to get one on your foot would be spring/summer time because you can wear sandals more and don't have to worry about the rubbing of socks and shoes.

I have one on my foot...I won't lie and say it was painless, but it wasn't bad at all either. The worst part about it was the way my leg wanted to jump while I was getting it done...so if you're going to get it done, make sure the artist holds onto your ankle tightly. Mine kept its color pretty well...make sure you get it done in the summer, so that you can wear flip flops all the time instead of regular shoes, which could rub against your new tattoo, causing it to fade. I really had no issues with my foot tattoo, and out of my three that I have, it's still my favorite.

I have a foot tattoo and it did hurt more than the rest but that is to be expected. I have had a little fading from wearing flip flops during the summer but not enough to make me discouraged about getting one on my other foot. I love my tattoo and I think you will love yours too.

Foot tattoos can be challenging. They hurt, are harder to heal and fade like crazy. If you are in sandals a lot, the sun does a really bad number on foot tattooing.
This generally does not stop anyone from getting them when they want them, however.

I just got my first foot /ankle tat last friday. I have 2 others on my back, and one on my stomach. The one on my foot hurt sooooooooooooooooooooo bad, and now it's really swollen and sore. My suggestion is make sure you have a least a week off from work to baby it and hop around! I love how it looks though. Good luck!

When I talked to a tattoo artist about getting one on my foot, they told me that the skin on your foot doesn't take the ink as easily as other parts of your body. So it takes more ink, it takes longer to do because they have to keep going over the same spot to make the ink take, and it is more painful because they have to keep going over the same spot.
I don't know as far as fading goes. I never got one on my foot and they didn't say anything about it when I was asking about getting it done.

the pain is indescribable. i am great with tattoos too, my artist is always amazed at how well i sit but my feet tattoos made me want to slap somebody. but it wasn't so bad that i wouldn't get another one... coz i did.
also the swelling is unbelievable. my foot barely fit in the flip flop that i had to wear for the first few days. (you have to wear flip flops only for two weeks! no shoes or socks!!!) you need to keep it elevated for the first few days as much as possible. you can put ice on it (in a bag wrapped in cloth) to help the swelling.
feel free to email me with any other questions you may have.
