what is the major difference between the split and window type a/c,which one performs better?

are they using R134a gas in the compressor? what is btu.
in 1ton split unit howmuch btu comes?

Advantages of window AC
1. Compact, standalone unit
2. Can be installed easily
3. Can be replaced easily by another unit in case of major fault in the unit.

Disadvantages of WAC
1. Little bit noisy as the compressor is mounted in the unit.

Advantages of Split AC
1. Developed for rooms which do not have wall open to atmosphere.
2. Almost noiseless.

Disadvantages of SAC
1. Installation time taken is more.
2. Can not be easily replaced by standby unit.
3. Theoretically less efficient than WAC. (though no manufacturer will accept this)

Compressor using R134a is not yet developed for AC application.

Btu is British Thermal Unit.

The advantage of split systems to window units is primairily the reduction in noise. The outdoor unit can be up to 30m from the indoor unit and this can help especially if the unit is for a bedroom as example. BTU is british thermal units
