Undefined.

Suppose 8 / 0 = something

Then 8 = 0 * something

But (0 * something) *must* be zero, and zero is not 8.

This is an undefined function. There is no way to solve it.

In general for a fraction a/b = c can be rewritten as a = b*c

So in your example, you are trying to find which value of c, when multiplied by 0 equals 8. Clearly there is no such value of c.

To evaluate this, you need to take the limit. Obviously, 8/0 does not have finite answer. but what happens when you let 8/x approach zero? As it turns out,

lim 8/x = inifinity
x->0

There is no finite answer. The answer is the evaluation is inifinity.

You can't evaluate it.

8/0 is meaningless

I remember in grade 9, most of the class had to stay after a test , because we all got it wrong ;^)
