It is a matter of choice, but if you name means something bad you are encouraged to change your name. And a person can convert to being a Muslim and not know any Arabic. There are many sects of Islam. I myself follow the first 3 generations of Muslim. The Prophet Mohammed
may Allah bring peace and blessings upon him stated that we should follow the first 3 generations inch by inch as if they were a lizard and fell into a whole we would fall close behind them. In Islam we deal with proof and evidence. If we don't have any we leave it alone. At times when we are confused we do have scholars of Islam who are much more knowledgeable than we are and we have opportunities to ask them questions. Our prayers are said in Arabic, I know that some muslims say theirs in english but believe me they have no proof that they can do that. You will have to know some Arabic. Go to this website they have a lot of information for people who are non-muslims. www.spubs.com. May Allah guide you Amin. I feel I must clarify that the Quran is the speech of Allah, the recitation is the Quran, it was not created Allah is Everliving. The book that you see being called the Quran is called a mustaf. Get yourself a Noble Qu'ran, The website below can tell you where to get one. And there is not such thing as a bible God sent Moses the Torah and Jesus the Injil. They did not speak Latin. Do some research Jesus spoke a mixture of hebrew and arabic.

Arabic is the language of Heaven and was the language where the Quran (our Holy Book) was revealed in. During that time and place, everyone spoke Arabic. Today we have these sources originally in Arabic and are translated to different languages to understand. However, thats for only understanding, you need to know Arabic to read the Quran.
See other books like the Bible were originally in Latin but later translated. During translation, there are many mistranslations and that could cause error. So to prevent misunderstandings and error, the Quran and other important sources (i.e. Hadith) is still kept in Arabic.
Btw it is not necessary to change your name to arabic to convert to Islam. Some may feel or want to feel more connected so they do.

Arabic is the language of Islam, like Hebrew is the language of Judaism. It is said that the Koran can only be read in Arabic to understand the full meaning of the tome, because of the poetry of the language, each word, each syllable, each tone has holy resonance (some have said the same about Hebrew and the Torah).

Arabic is the language of Allah and the Heavens (based on Islam) My mom converted to Islam and kept her name..Anita.
You don't have to
but some people are moved so deeply by Islam they feel the need to.
The Quran was originally written in Arabic..and you will be able to understand it better in Arabic in English but you can always ask someone who understands Arabic to explain it to you.
Arabic is so pure and beautiful.
the Quran is about interpretation not translation.

First off, our prophet, Muhammad was an Arab and the Qur'an was revealed in Arab through Archangel Jibrail. To preserve Al Qur'an, It must be maintained in its original text devoid of any edit, omission or addition by overzealous cleric as do the Christian bible.
You need not change your name to Arabic if you choose not to, its not compulsory.
Allah is all knowing, Arabic being His language is irrelevant. Remember Zabur, Torah and Injil are also His Revelation in Hebrew, only Qur'an in Arabic. All these monotheistic religions branched out from Abraham. Abraham's wife Hagar beget Ishmael into Arabs clans and Sarah beget Isaac into Israelite clans.
Being a Muslim one MUST read and understand Arabic in order to recite the Qur'an in their daily 5 times prayers.
You don't have to be an Arab to be a Muslim.

Well Arabic is not necessary to be a Muslim.
but wouldnt you want to read the original message of God in its entirety? Without having to depend on other peoples translations all the time?
Im wondering where Optimus Prime got his information because Arabic was around much before the Quran was.

Muslims are made to believe the q'uran is written in 100% arabic.
PROBLEM: There wasn't written arabic during the time of muhammad. Secondly, it has been proven by historians and scholars that the q'uran contains a jargon of terminologies from other languages not used in arabic.
There wasn't a major religion for the arabs at the time, and they were desperately looking for an identity. In terms of language, faith and brotherhood. Islam was the tool. A tool that they used to try to bring together a community that was breaking apart, and to fight against their self-assumed foe.

prophet Muhammad has fought the Arab pagans and he was an Arab himself. the relationship between all muslims is about faith not about race or colors. however the reason they change their name to arabic name is because most of the companions of prophets had Arabic names. such as Abdul Allah (the slave of Allah), Omar (he was an islamic leader), Ali (he was related to prophet Muhammad)..etc

Because Muhammad (peace be upon him) is an Arab so Jibrail had to speak in his language or else he would not understand..and he couldn't even read or write at that point of time.
