Without *seeing* what it looks like, I can only say that it *sounds* like a cyst. Keep an eye on it. Sounds like, at this point, it may just be irritated since you mentioned trying to sqeeze it.
If it is red, hot, swollen, AND the area that is red is spreading, you most likely have an infection and will need some antibiotics. Don't want to mess around with potential infections.
While you watch it, try and keep it clean in the meantime. Rubbing alcohol will help dry whatever it is out and provide anti-bacterial protection.

Yes, if it is warm to the touch that most likely means there is an infection, I don't know if you are aware of this but there is a staph infection that is quickly affecting people all over the U.S called MRSA if treated it usually goes away and doesn't come back. If it is not treated it could cause serious problems and in rare instances death. It mimicks a pimple or a boil and is on the skin there is swelling, redness, sometimes puss like discharge. Treatbable with antibiotics, but it is penacillin restistant so most times they will culture it to see if it is in fact MRSA. Usually you wouldn't be concerned about your situation but with this new staph infection affecting alot of people I would say its better to be safe than sorry, the internet has some great info on MRSA check it out. Also, this staph infection can appear anywhere on the body

Could be a clogged pore. I have one on my back that grows to the size of a golfball if I don't get it lanced. I have to get it lanced and they squeeze the white, pimple looking stuff out of it. Dr. said it will always come back because I had an injury in that spot and now the pore doesn't drain like it's supposed to. It doesn't feel too hard, but it's not right up against the bone, either. It does get warm, though. That's how I know it's getting big enough to get lanced again (I can't see it).

It could still be a 'zit'. Not all zits can be 'popped'. Some are more cystic in nature. And if its red and sore it could be because you tried to pop it. Give it time to go away. If it won't heal...then start worrying.

I don't think you should run to the ER, but you should have a doctor look at it sooner rather than later if it hurts.
