Our ceremony was performed in Michigan as well. As long as your officiant is an ordained minister in the state of Texas, he will be able to perform your ceremony. Ministers (regardless of residence) are not required to register with the county clerk. Here is the link to the State of Michigan official website on who can perform marriage ceremonies: http://www.michigan.gov/statelicensesearch/0,1607,7-180-24786_24819-81380--,00.html

My wife and I were just married Last Dec. 17th by our friend and all that was necessary was for the person performing the ceremony to be an "ordained" minister. This was done on line and it was free except for all the fancy "certification of ordainment" paper that was optional in case you wanted something to frame. We were married in Washington so check with the clerk at the place you get your marriage license.

calling the county clerk is a good start. also it depends on what your friend is... is your friend a priest or pastor? sometimes they can't do out of state weddings. you would also have to find that out as well from a church if that is applicable. if he is just a j.o.p then the county clerk office is the way to go.

your friend needs to be ordained in the state that he is performing the ceremony in. So I checked out the first site I came to and checked it out. It "seemed" pretty legit. However I have no need to become a practicing ordained minister so I went no further than printing the receipt here is the link
www.themonestary.org check it out
also I checked out the ordering info and here is what I found out:(basically make sure if this is done online and he is performing in a state that requires an official stamped certificate that you take care of this at least 30 days in advance to handle the shipping time)

Have you talked with your friend? Does he have authority to marry you in your state? That is the number one question I am sure he can find out for you. Other than that you can contact the clerks office where you will get your marriage license and get all the details. You can also try www.theknot.com they have great wedding ideas and situations.

You should call the county recorder, or clerk and find out what you need to do, and you should pay for his flight, unless his marrying you is his gift.
