Everyday, I'm fairly tired from getting to bed a lot later than usual. However, I can NEVER seem to fall asleep to take a nap. No matter what technique, relaxation pill, milk, tea I try nothing works. Maybe I'm so used to not falling asleep lately from naps that I think about NOT falling asleep when I go to take a nap these past few weeks.

Sure, there's the usual stress from school and stress from class, but nothing over the top to worry about. Anyone have any techniques that help them fall asleep for a nap?

Thanks in advance,

-Travis

you seem like you're trying to sleep

sleep hardly comes when you TRY

what's really annoying is that you get annoyed while you lay there, and that, too, keeps you awake. also, going to bed earlier doesn't seem to help, because you're still awake.

i would also guess that you do things in bed that your mind associates with mental activity, such as reading, or watching interesting movies/tv. stop that, because it makes your bed a place where your mind get's active.

change around your room, and clean your sheets as well as you can so that the room looks different. this will start the disassociation process.

read and watch TV in chairs. a metal folding chair, if you must. but not in bed. don't eat in bed either.

most importantly, stop getting frustrated that you can't seem to fall asleep. it doesn't help. think of it, rather, as just a time to lay and relax.

I make sure that where ever I am trying to take a nap is free from light. I mean there is always going to be some light coming from somewhere....but anyway...I also try to not force myself to think about napping. Where are you most comfortable in your home? Maybe its in a lay-z-boy or curled up on the couch. I sometimes also plug in my MP3 player and have a playlist with only relaxing songs and whatnot. That seems to work. Make sure to put it on the lowest volume setting so its more of background noise.

When I have trouble sleeping, I try Melatonin that disolves under the tongue. I turn off the lights, close the blinds and listen to soft music while I cuddle under the blanket. I find that when I am warm, I tend to relax. I also have to have the room fairly dark. See link for information regarding Melatonin. Note: You can go to a health store and speak to them about different types of natural pills that can help you sleep.

Well if it doesn't go away in about a week or too and you start not to feel good then think about getting tested for mono or something.

I got it from touching a basketball.
And it makes you really tired.

A sleeping technique is watch TV show in bed and put your TV on timer. It makes you tired to watch TV in bed at night.

:]

Hopefully you fall asleep okay.

you should always have enough time to take a nap. for instance I always take a nap when I have 3 or more hours of free time because I have time to relax and fall asleep.

I had this same problem, I would actually drink 2 beers, then that would make me tired and I would be able to sleep. I dont think this is the best advice though, I am just saying what I did.
