Yes, the drug they are drinking it for is dextromethorphan hydrobromide, or simply put as DXM. With high doses it can make you feel "happy". The only problem with high doses is that the cough syrup is made with other drugs which can kill you in high doses. It can cause shallow breathing, weakness, tachycardia (rapid beating of the heart), vomiting, rashes, and death.

Yes, I have. It is possible to get a high off of those medications. Unfortunately, they have several meds in them that when taken in too high a quantity can kill you. I have seen overdoses with cough syrup. We're talking respiratory depression (decreased breathing until you stop), coma, seizures -- long term, it could effect your liver.

Yes-similiar effects as any other type of alcohol, along with extreme fatigue.
