It's incredibly old, I found it in the bottom of a box somewhere. I tried installing it using the directions it gave (from the DOS prompt, type in D:\SETUP etc.) but instead of opening the game, it would close. The game is pretty old so I wouldn't be surprised if it's impossible to download onto my computer...please try to help.

Often with these old games the setup program just copied the programs to a folder on your hard drive, after first checking if you had enough room on the drive for it to fit. With the larger capasity drives, these old programs can't tell how much room there is and they quit.

Try copying the programs yourself to a folder you set up, then start it using Oregon as the previous Yamster said. If this still doesn't work, then the problem may be that your monitor card is to advanced for the program. Look on the side of the old box for the system requirements - you may have to find an old PC at a garage sale and try it there.

If you want to play the very first version of the game (the one for an Apple computer) it can be played here: http://www.virtualapple.org/oregontraildisk.html
