I left someone else's 3 year old sitting on the counter at the health club once. I was busy ogling the guy who was checking us in.

My oldest daughter (age 6 at the time) walked her sister into preschool and while i was in the parking lot waiting for her to come back out, for some reason I just drove off and it wasn't until I got almost to the end of the parking lot that I realized...OOPS! I felt so awful...but people get side tracked like that I guess. Also, that same year I went to pick up my daughter from preschool and one of her friends also who rode home with us quite often was supposed to come with us that day. I was perfectly aware of it, and I went in, got my daughter, and left. About an hour or so later, I had a phone call saying...you were supposed to take (my daughters friend...I won't mention the name) home. DUH!!! How do you explain that? During that period of time there was a lot of stress in my life and I just couldn't hold it all together I guess. I felt so awful that whole evening. I just cried and cried!

I gotta tell you what happened to me when my son was very young.........
I was shopping, exhausted, and frazzled... a new mom and not used to having anyone with me... it was weird... but I had my new son in the shopping cart...yup the shopping cart, right up front I believe, it was 18 years ago, and I emptied my cart, putting my groceries in the trunk, my son still in the front of the cart, went back up to the store and pushed the cart in a long line of carts right by the door and started to walk away....
suddenly.....I remembered that my son was there, and I had pushed him in with the other carts (still strapped in his car seat thing), and started walking across the parking lot.........well, as soon as I realized what I had done, I could not get back fast enough to him..........he was only alone for a few moments, but to this day, I will never forget it.......... things like this DO happen, and they happen to GOOD parents who LOVE their kids.......... sometimes this is just what happens in life......... you can bet, it never happened to me again.......but when people say they have done things similar to this, it makes me think back to when my son was only a baby, and it reminds me, never to judge.

Yes, I forgot one of my newborns in the car one time. I was my first time out with her and I was not used to having a newborn along, not for a long time. I just got out and went into the craft store, ho hum, did my shopping, and went back out to the car--and lo and behold, there was the baby still sleeping in her carseat. I freaked out so badly, I couldn't believe I had done that.
Praise God that a) it was a cool day and b) no one saw it and reported me.

I have twin boys and once I ran into a store, bought both of them in. I went in to drop something off to a friend, was holding one of my boys and the other was at my side. The one at my side ran to another friend in the store. I dropped off what I had to and walked out. I got a few blocks away and realised I only had one kid. Went back and he was completely fine. I now make sure both are with me.

I have never forgotten any of my kids. I am a stay at home mom and with my kids 24\7 so it is just natural for me to just have them there. If i worked and dropped my kids off at a baby sitter and actually had time alone in my life then maybe it could happen. I can see how when ur kids arnt with u all the time to get lost in life and accidently forget they are with u and when they arnt. i know for me, when i actually do have a time when i can go to the store alone (rarely lol) I will be doing my thing and then almost start freeking cause my kids arnt there with me then i realize.... oh yea duh... i left them with daddy or my mom or who ever. when u are in a rutine in life and it is interupted with some type of change... its easy to forget. Just be careful i guess. good luck to u and God Bless. I dont know wether that dad did it on purpose or not. its not my place to judge. but i can see him doing that not on purpose if it is not natural for him to have his child in his care alot. he could have just got carried away in life of his rutine with out having kids around and oops remembered. i bet he felt like crap

I have never forgoten one of my children, nor will I ever leave them in the car alone, even If I am running into 7-11 to buy milk or pay for gas I bring them, it's just not worth the risk. You hear so many horor stories.

I didn't {he is only 4 weeks old, so maybe I will one day}, but friend of mine forgot his 4 years old in the restaurant ... His daugter was playing in the children's corner, he met an old friend, started talking, then the friend offered to drive him home and of course, when he got home, his wife asked him where the kid was... she almost killed him, ha ha.

My sister and I left her 6 month old granddaughter in her car. She was asleep, lot of distractions, etc. She was in the car over an hour. Thank goodness it wasn't very hot.
