I dont know about cheap products, But ALOE is a medicine healing plant. In vaseoline intensive care is a Aloe ingredient that stops your body from drying up infact this lotion adds a moisture to your skin and it heals most everything it touches.

I love the answer below about looking at the ingredient label, it's so, so important. Your mom is SO right. The reason that the vaseline lotion isn't working is it's just surfacely lubricating your skin and not actually penetrating into the skin and healing it. You've GOT to try L'Bri Pure n' Natural's hand and body lotion. Aloe is the first ingredient (instead of oil, water or petroleum like most companies use) and it's packed with vitamins, minerals, herbs and botanicals. I guarantee that once you try this lotion, you'll NEVER use anything else on your skin. Check it out at suenelson.com.

There are better products. Vaseline used to make a burning feeling because they put something irritating in the lotion so you would feel like it was working better. Look for some products with more natural ingredients shea butter, plant oils etc The other person was right that it is a biproduct of the oil company that is in vaseline.

have a look at the ingredients list on vaseline products. one of the first ingredients is petroleum jelly which is the muck they scrape off the top of petrol (if you're in america you call it gas i think). it does exactly what your mum says it does.
there are stacks of natural products on the market that are soo much better. anything with aloe vera in it will be a wonderful hydrater for your skin as this is what the plant was designed by nature to do
