I have never had to have surgery of any kind to speak of. . .have had minor office procedures but nothing major.
I suspect you are worried about how you would handle it if you found out you had to have emergency surgery and I will tell you that you will handle any emergency as it comes up as you will not have a choice.
Most people who are afraid of emergency surgery in reality are afraid of the loss of control over their own bodies.
If a person goes to a Dr and is told that they are to have surgery to correct a problem, they usually have time to accept the decision and come to terms with the inevitable but when someone is faced with an emergency, the sudden onset of needing to comprenhend the problem, the realization that a decision has already been predetermined, the need to QUICKLY understand the problem and to come to terms with what is going to happen can be extremely overwhelming.
As an experienced OR Scrub Tech even I would be overwhelmed with the thought of an emergency surgery even though I know the procedure. . . .it's that feeling that one does not have control and that is a scary feeling.
In the end,I have to realize that GOD is in control and not me. . . not even on a good day and since GOD is in control there is little I can do except worry and just like everybody else in this world,I worry well.
In the end, when the emergency surgery is over as with most everything in a person's life. . . we reflect and realize that we were worried about nothing because things rarely turn out as we have it played out in our heads.
As the song goes. . . "Don't Worry,Be Happy".

I had an emergency C-section four years ago. I would have been totally terrified but after being in labor for 30 hours I was too exhausted.

I have had emergency surgeries. A c-sect and ones related to arthritis. The ones for arthritis became emergenmcies due to pain or deformities that happened right before my eyes.
