His ear infections are usually just red inside, not much fluid behind ear drums.

If your doctor has said that he needs tubes you should have a second opinion from another doctor not associated with your doctor. If they both agree you can ask the to explain what will happen if he does, and doesn't get the tubes. Make your dicision from there. If need be get a third and fourts opinion, after this is your son and he is trusting you to make the very best decision for him.

If he gets a lot of infections....then probably yes get the tubes put in IF the DR. advises it. The allergy tests now are a simple blood test. No longer the 100's of needles in the back (at least it felt that way) I know it helped my son getting them put in.

it is a simple out patient surgery and he will be in and out on the same day. within 2 days he will be playing like before. Just use ear plugs when he swims.

I just read the other answers....he does not need much fluid for it to get infected. Yes it does hurt but not for long. My son had them put in 3 times and it never bugged him much. It will NOT NOT NOT make him loose his hearing. it could actually improve it by making the eardrum vibrate freely without it being hindered by fluid. It is like hearing with your head under water if there is a fluid build up of any kind.

Yes, I lost 60% hearing in my left ear because I had so many ear
infections before they were drained & again & again. Although I
am an adult I'd hate to see him go through the channels while so
young go seriously wrong.
I too have allergys, mosly dust & dander, I am glad he's having it
done at an early age although the poor lil guy doesn't understand
why he has to go to all this pain.
I wish the lil one love and wellness & You Mom Best of Luck!
Take Good Care,
Summer

How do you know there is no fluid behind his eardrums?
He may need tubes for a while but be forwarned, the procedure is VERY painful regardless of what the doctor may say.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!Dont do it ear tubes could damage his ears then he wont be able to hear so well!! ONLY use this as a last resort. Ear infections are common among little kids, dont be alarmed I remember I had ear infections a lot too but I never had tubes put in my ears. http://blogs.webmd.com/all-ears/2006/10/ear-infections-in-children-count-to.html
