Is it for human kind to rest and relax? Or is it a day in which God rested from his work and made it holy, asking human kind to reserve this day as a day of worship to our creator and a day of serving, to Glorify God especially this day?

It is true that many people worship God only on Sabbath or Sunday when in fact we should worship Him daily. God rested on the seventh day, and we in fact should do the same. Growing up, Sunday was a very relaxing day. No work was done other than cooking the meals and dishes. That has changed a lot though. With the stores being open any day, we tend to go shopping and run errands on the day of rest because we're too tired to do so the rest of the week. This makes of a dull life and a stressful one. I think we have forgotton how to rest and read a book or go for long walks and do simply nothing for a day. The Amish still follow the old ways and I envy them. Could you imagine how nice it would be not to hear the phone ring, the TV on, the radio blast but just to take in silence and allowing oneself time to think and muse.

Jesus Christ saw the Sabbath differently. Here is what he said concerning the Sabbath:
Matthew 12,12
It is lawful to do well on the sabbath days.
Mark 2,27
The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath.
The teaching on the sabbath has been misinterpreted by some Christian denominations. It is clearly a day of rest and a time to "rest" in the Lord. We read in the book of Genesis 2,3:
And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it He had rested from all his work which God created and made.
The fourth commandment is even more specific about this day being a day of sanctification.
Exodus 20,8
Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.

Peace and every blessing!

Sunday at your local Church, not working but resting in the house of God.

"Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy." The Sabbath, then, is holy time. Yet it was made for man—as a great blessing to all mankind! Our Creator knew that we would need a period of rest and worship every seventh day, and this is the basic purpose for which the Sabbath was created.

The day for God. It is how people receive the bread of life into their souls to be refreshed from the problems of the week. Receive the word of God and reflect.
However, it does not absolutely mean that you get the rest of the day off. Jesus said that if there is something that broke on that day and needs to be fixed right away, then fix it. You will not be punished for that.
At the same time, if you do need the rest and all the work is done, then mend your physical self and get some rest.
I think this really shows that God is a common sense God and caring too, knowing already what we need and how He gives.

The Sabbath is the day that was given to man to rest from all his work, and to honor the Creator (Yahweh, Jehovah, Elohim, GOD). Mankind was commanded in the 20th chapter of Exodus to "Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy." In Isaiah, the 58th chapter, we are told that if we refrain from doing our own pleasures and business practices on the Sabbath, blessings will overtake us. At some point, SOMEONE got the notion that the Sabbath doesn't apply to the church today, citing that when Jesus died on the cross, He did away with the law of Moses. Jesus Himself said, "Think not that I am come to do away with the law, but to fulfill it." Further, the Sabbath of the LORD existed from the days of Adam and Eve; LONG before Moses came onto the scene. The Sabbath is not "the law of Moses".... it is the HOLY DAY of the Lord Jehovah, the GOD of all creation. It was included into the laws GOD gave Moses, because the people were rebellious, and began to do their "own thing" on the day which he blessed and hallowed.

The Sabbath is the day to worship God and also to rest from the week's work.

not sure of the true meaning, but I believe it's a bit of both.
alot of people say you shouldn't work on this day, but what about doctors? they have no other choice, because obviously, people can't help but need them when they are needed. I believe in being in church on this day and worshipping God everyday of course, but there is just a different feeling about the sabbath day to me. I feel God indeed made it a holy day. God bless.

A Christian has their Sabbath rest in Jesus Christ. Christ is Lord even of the Sabbath.

Mark 2:27-28
And He said to them, "The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath. Therefore the Son of Man is also Lord of the Sabbath."

We see the clarification of the significance of the Sabbath in the book of Hebrews, chapters 3 & 4. The idea is that as we enter into Christ, we have entered into rest because we no longer work and strive to live. He is our life. He provides all our needs. So we have no more fear or worry.
