First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.

Did Gandhi have anyone laugh at him? How was his life? Did he overcome some obstacle to achieve his goal? Can someone explain this quote or show me to a place that will help me understand this quote?

I am not a scholar of Gandhi but I have a thought. Gandhi was trying to change the way people behaved. I believe he was trying to be a humanitarian and peace keeper. Like Jesus was treated when he came to Earth. He was ignored by the Pharisees at first.
Then when the pharisees started to listen to Jesus' teachings they laughed at him. Then they fought his teachings to resist the change. They raged against Jesus to point of crucifing him. Then in death Jesus won the souls of all man kind if people except that God sent his son to die for our sins that we may get to heaven. Ghandi is more renouned for his teachings now than when he was alive and has won greater impact. Just a shot in the dark. (or LIGHT) haha

First, if Gandhi said this I'd be surprised, the quote is not an old one.

Regardless: the Christn 35 analogy is great.

It is a "timeless" event as in man's first flight, etc, ignore, laugh-mock, then try to stop, then success. Simple

Mankind's struggle with superstition, igornance and such.
