I got the same thing here in Cincinnati, so I spent some time on the web. Couldn't find out much about the Advisory Council on Child Safety, but there was something on my invite "Babee Tenda Ohio" that was in small print, so I did some research. The website of the Advisory Council claims that they present the safety seminars that are sponsored by Babee Tenda company.
It's a high pressure sales pitch from a Missouri company. For $5000-$10000, you become a distributor. They send out these invites to these safety seminars. They spend the first part scaring the crap out of these new parents about how many other competitors products have been recalled, and how many different ways products and everyday life can kill your baby.
Then, they introduce you to the Babee Tenda, Inc.'s line of products. Now, I didn't find anything that suggested these products aren't high-quality. In fact, with the exception of a small handful of complaints, I generally found that this company has a very loyal following. The main complaint about the sales pitch is that it is very high pressure, may make misleading statements and statistics about other baby product manufacturers, and don't give you the opportunity to shop and compare elsewhere.
I think it's misleading that what appears to be a safety seminar is actually a sales pitch, and a consistent complaint is that items are high-priced and the extra price is not really justified for whatever marginally better safety it may provide.
Frankly, when I learned that the seminar presenter has been asked to put down $5,000-$10,000, I think this is a person who cares about making money, not educating me on the best product for my baby.

I've never heard of a "getting ready for baby" show and I have 4 kids. It's weird that both parents are required to attend??? What happens if you're a single mom?
