If it's THAT bad, you probably need to take both cats to the vet. They may need to be "dipped" if they have a particularly bad infestation. Then you should find someplace where they can stay (away from your home) while you have a pest removal come and take care of all the fleas infesting the house until they tell you it's safe to have them come back. If the cats go right home, the fleas that are still there will just re infest them. This can be a very big job. Ask around to see if anyone you know knows a company that is good at this, or look in the yellow pages under "pest removal" for a company that specializes in fleas, among other things too, of course. Find out how toxic the product they will use is, and if you need to leave the home yourself for a while, and/or cover up or pack away your dishes, etc.
Good luck, but aren't the kitties worth it?

Frontline, you'll be surprised, just this and the fleas will be gone in no time. I had a problem a while ago with dogs and fleas, turns out without a cat or dog a flea can not reproduce or live, I guess fleas can not live off of humans alone, they do bite though. So just go out and buy frontline, and maybe some flea bombs. If your cats never go outside then you'll only have to treat them a few times. Just remember to get frontline for cats or advantage for cats, if you use off brand stuff you're just wasting time and money. and steer clear of hartz,

I just went through the same problem, I thought i could just treat them once with that junk you buy from the pet store. What I have learned is that the fleas life cycle is about 30 days. they drop their larvae around the house and so when they hatch in 30 days the cycle starts all over again. What you need to do first off is get the good stuff, frontline is what i used, its expensive but it works. you need to treat your cats with it every 30 days for a few months. you also should get some of the flea stuff for carpets and treat places your cats sleep and hang out like under the beds and other furniture to vacum up as much of the larvae as possible. The frontline will give you results right away but dont let it fool you, if you dont retreat you pets they will probably come back in a month. hope this is helpful!

My cat used to be a flea magnent she was outside most of the time though. We gave her a flea bath and combed her. Then we bought 'flea bomber' set it off and left the house for a few hours When you get home you should be flea free. BUT....If you do chose to use this method make sure you take your pets with you when you leave the house!!

Treat your cats and treat your home.
For cat flea treatment contact your veterinarian. For your home I would contact a professional exterminator. Wash all bedding the cats have been in contact with. Than expect to have fleas on your animals for up to 4-6 months. You will need to keep your cats on a flea preventative. Than keep them inside

Bundle up the cats and any other pets in the house and you and the pets are going to have to leave the house vacant for about an hour, so the flea bomb you put in works its full time. If you have natural gas heat, cooking, or water heating you need to blow out your pilot light, because flea bomb stuff is very flammable.

Remove you and the cats for about 5-10 hrs and Bug bomb the hell out of the place.. and get flea collars for the cats before you return.. otherwise yer gonna be back to square 1..
other than that call an exterminator and spend 4 days at a hotel while they tent your house and cost you about $4000.00
and you still gotta get the flea collars (SHEESH)
your other option is to remove EVERY carpet you have in the house and replace it and still follow step 1 above.. (that will likely cost you about $8k)
Tsk tsk.. and all this for a lack of a $4.00 flea collar huh?

Oh gosh... I had that and never got rid of it until I moved away. Try this though:
1. Make sure your cats are on perscribed flea control medicine. That's the only kind that works.
2. Flea bombs do often kill them off, you can get a flea bomb at any walmart or pet store.

Go buy some flea bombs, but when you do it the cats also have to be treated. Take them to the groomer and have them bathed and dipped and while they are gone and you are gone bomb the house. You may have to do this 2 or 3 times before they are all gone.
