I am turning 25 years old.. I'm a teacher so I don't make that much money nor do i have much saved up. I'm an Asian American but I consider myself very americanized. I'm trendy, enjoy the occasional big party but also enjoy doing artsy things. What would be a good area to start off in?

Depends on where your school is....but if that doesn't matter I would try somewhere around Wilshire and Fairfax or something westward from there...lots of action for a 25 year old...and the Art museum is not far away...MOCA I think it is called..something like that....LOL

The best thing to do is to scope out the neighborhoods yourself when you get to L.A.

When I first loved to LA, I lived in the Beverly/Fairfax district. It's pretty centralized.

But, if you are trendy like you say you are, you might want to consider the trendy parts of L.A. like Silverlake, Echo Park and Eagle Rock. Those neighborhoods have a growing hip, young population. There are lots of cool bars, galleries, restaurants and boutiques popping up all over those neighborhoods.

I hope you have a lot of money saved. Cost of living is so expensive in LA. You won't have any money to party at all. A single apartment that is just a room with a bath and kitchenette is $800.00 in a not so great area of LA. The valley is the least expensive and sort of nice, Burbank is nide but expensive, studio city is expensive but nice, Santa Monica and the beach area is outrageous and unless you want a million roommates and no place to park forget it. Hollywood is getting expensive also. The area north and south of Melrose avenue is nice but very expensive 1 bed room apts are $1500.00

Silverlake is a trendy up and coming neighborhood just east of Hollywood. You can find some cheap real estate there. It's very bohemian and a young crowd. Also, try West Hollywood,North Hollywood or the Burbank area.Craigslist is a good place to start.

Echo Park is pretty sweet. Its part artsy neighborhood, rich bohemian and working class. You're close to downtown and the highways and you can still live in the hills for a low price.

Where you should live will depend on where you will be working.

don't be lured by cheap rent someplace distant thinking you'll have an easy freeway commute. There's no such thing hear. You want to do whatever feasible to reduce your commute time.

Understand that rents will be astronomical. Insurance, too.

I don't know if you have a job lined up, but if not, you shouldn't have too much problem finding one. There is a significant demand for teachers in Cali (thanks, Arnold.)

Well its expensive anywhere you go.....
if you move with someone its much cheaper. I would suggest West Hollywood for you....Its artsy, convienant, near all the good restaurants, clubs and its (for the most part) safe
