I know that you can lunge horses on a lunge line as exercise, can you do the same thing with dogs?

I know you can lunge horses on a lunge line, but can I do the same with my dog?

And I would walk him but in the cold winter its awful walking him so I'm looking for something to do inside.

Haha that's hilarious... I would give it a try. In fact, you have inspired me to try with my big dog, just for a laugh to see if he will actually do it!! Good luck. Are you just gonna use his collar? I might try to invent a mini dog style longe headcollar. haha.

Sorry to say, but the spelling is "longe" not "lounge"...and lunge works fine for this site's purpose.

That said, go for it. Use a long lead though so the circles aren't too small. And hey, if you can get him to do lead changes then you'll have a dog that can pull some awesome corners ;)

Probably. But not the same way, as dogs are predatory species while horses are prey species. But why don't you just walk your dog? You'll both get exercise that way.

Just take the dog for a walk. I think a dog would get tired of it.

Sounds like you both can use the exercise. If you are too lazy to take your dog for a walk, you shouldn't own one.

Lounge line. Pronounced 'lunge',though. ^_-

And yep. I did it with my Rhodesian Ridgeback for years. She adored it. Once I find a lead long enough to withstand a great dane's momentum,I intend to do the same with my boy.

Not unless he likes it. can make him dizzy. You can run him on a long leash but very few dogs like running around in endless circles unless chasing their tail.

I don't see why not unless he/sh doesn't like it!
