Yes, I would agree, the person you quote is using faulty logic, that is almost quite obvious. We earth people see things in such limited perspective at times and that includes most of the masses who have absolutely essentially no real insight as to what it's truly like to be fully ingrained into the culture and solidly planted in gospel sod inside the church as an active, viable member. Basically, the world approaches this from an entirely different perspective and viewpoint than what the Mormon people have about themselves. But looking at things from their perspective I can appreciate some of the reasoning. It almost humored me the other day when a friend posted a picture on Facebook showing the marque sign of a Baptist Church that said: "Don't Pray about the Book of Mormon. That's How they Get You!" Most who oppose the Church in whatever way most often have a vested interest in why they do so. Often it has to do with their culture and love of the things of this world, and a desire to protect the same. Pride is the sum of most of the WHY of it. But recognizing the Church as the Work of God upon the earth, the rolling forth of His Kingdom as a stone from a mountain proceeding without hands, I'm willing to tolerate the opposition of the moment and continue to battle it out in the world arena of ideas as many have yet to even hear of the church and it's good doings before they'll even be willing to investigate further. What often gets left out of all of these arguments are the necessity of true reading, study, pondering, etc. that also go before the prayer answer comes, as those who convert don't do so for the feeling, but because the overwhelming evidence of truth settles deep into their souls. The Lords parables regarding the sowing of seeds & law of the harvest certainly come true here. Many do fail to prosper or sustain themselves in their commitment of the truth long enough to reach the time of spiritual harvest in their lives. Indeed, straight is the gate, narrow the way, and few there be that find it. At least the Lord is honest in His council regarding these things.

When you look at how many members the Big Wigs say the church has, you have to know that it includes the inactive members as well. The LDS church isn't like most churches that will drop your name if you haven't been there in awhile. If you haven't been there in 30 years, your name is still on the records and you are being counted as a member. The church loves to boast about it's numbers, my guess is that if you take away the inactive members, less active, and ones that are not temple worthy it would be much less.

I'd trust the link Liz S above gives. I was going to say they have just about reached 13 mil, so that is pretty close. If in April 06' they were at a little over 12.5, and they usually add approximately 300K-350K per year, then by the end of 07 they should exceed 13 mil.

Just off the top of my head, I think it is something like 12 million or between 12 million and 13 million.

Around 12.5 million. We will have better numbers in April when a new statistical report is issued. My guess is it will reflect an increase. Maybe close to 13.5 million??
