We've had our cat since he was a kitten. He's full grown now and he recently disappeared. I was letting my dogs out back one day and I spotted him at the neighbors house behind ours. She was taking pictures of him and even getting him to sort of "pose" for her. She is a cat freak. She has about 6 cats who she lets in and out of her house and our cat just happened to go over there to stay. I call him back to our house but he acts as though he doesn't even recognize me anymore. He used to LOVE our dog, Red. They used to play and have a good ol' time, but now whenever our cat sees our dog through the fence, he will run straight back to our neighbors house.

Maybe she's giving him better food, lol. Or maybe he just likes being around other cats.

What do you think?

Remember too that he is a tom (male) and they roam a lot. In my mom's neighborhood, there are a lot of toms and they roam around from house to house. Once in awhile, a new cat will show up to my moms house and she'll feed it and take care of it, then after a few days it ends up going back up the street to its owner. Maybe leave some really good food out on your back porch and see if he'll come back. Female cats are more likely to stick around instead of go from place to place. Good luck getting your kitty back!!

Cats make their own decisions. For whatever reason the cat thinks is important.

We 'inherited' a cat that was our neighbor's. The cat was hanging on our screened windows every night. She had a litter of kittens in our back yard. She fuond a sunny spot to lie all during the day while in our yard.

We finally gave up (since we weren't cat people to begin with it was a tough call) We told the neighbor we would take care of the cat. Within an hour she had sent a bag of cat food over....lol. She had 3 cats of her own and was glad to know Callie was getting a good home....with two big dogs!

All that was over 12 years ago........we moved out of state......and we STILL have the cat.

Thats gotta be a male... and an unfixed male.. Trust me you can never keep them home.. they will go where the food is and where the ('scuze me ) where the pussy is.. they are wanderers.. thats a fact.. male cats unless fixed and well fed dont really belong to anyone person.. they are community cats.. LOL (I laugh but its totally serious)

Male cats (even neutered ones) are VERY territorial and have a specific pecking order... (the one that can kick every other males *** estabilishes his territory.. no thats not a joke) Younger male cats are notorious fighters.. and establish a range of territory fixed or not.. and like real life.. if there are femals involved.. well fixed or not.. they will fight and establish a range... house cats have about a 5 block range.. Cougars have a 30-100 mile range.. cats are cats.. what can i say? and males are males...

Really thats not unusual at all... just better keep yer eye on yer husband LOL they arent much better (again semi serious.. better feed him good hehehe)
There is an old saying.. Dogs have owners.. CATS have Staff...

That is so sad, maybe it is the food.

Have you ever seen the episode of spongebob when Gary(the pet snail) left spongeob to go with patrick(SB's BF the starfish), but only because patrick had a cookie in his pocket and Gary wanted it? Thats what your problem reminds me of.

My suggestion, try getting another dog, cuz ur neighbor has gotten your neighborhoods mouse probelm under control, LOL. Good luck!

Your cat will be back with you, probably real soon. Right now, he likes the companionship of other cats, cats are very social animals, but after awhile the other cats will get upset with him getting into their territory. Cats are very territorial and the neighbors house is not his territory, its the other cats. For right now he's just enjoying having someone else fawn all over him.

awwww... so sorry this happened to you and i know you can't help feeling "rejected." But hey, cats are known for fickleness: one day they love his or that, next day, they won't touch it. Hayyy.. the main thing is that your run-away kitty is safe and happy. She probably prefers sharing her den with other cats rather than a doggie... who knows? Have you taked to your neighbor about it?

I once had a neighbor whose two cast prefered to hang out at my place. The moment I open the back sliding door... zoom! they are inside. They would sleep on my bed, use my cat's litter box and eat from his bowl. Although my cat was disgusted by all this, he put up with it pretty well and generay ingnored the other two cats. I fed them, groomed them, de-fead them, had them vaccinated... just to keep my cat's envronemnt healthy. When I moved out, I asked my neighbor if I could take the two cats with me... to my amazement, she said "no" - her daughters will miss them she said (!!!????). Ah well...

Some cats do that , a cat did that to our daughter except it came to her house . She couldn't get it to leave no matter what she did . . She likes cats but her landlord said no pets . It sneaks in her house & runs up stairs & hides under her bed . A cat desided to stay at our house . It's on our back porch every time we put our dog out .
I hope you get your cat back .

Yes. We share our black cat with our neighbor two doors away, but Shadow has always had a list of clients.

In your case, I suspect that when you adopt a new kitten, which you should, you'll likely wind up with two cats, one old and exceedingly jealous. At that point, I imagine that you'll figure it out with your neighbor. The cat, of course, must make his own decisions.

Maybe this cat is enjoying other feline company. Cat people often have different vibes from the rest of us and the cat is responding. Food maybe but animals go where they are most comfortable.
Dogs are more loyal..I am sad you cat has left you but I do believe it is quite happy where it is....

If you're on good terms with your neighbour, ask her what she thinks. Maybe your cat is lonely and needs a feline companion. Who knows...but your neighbour may have some insight...

Is there any way you could make your cat an inside-only cat? That would solve your problem and it's better for your cat. But I know it's not always easy to convert an outdoor cat to an indoor cat. Just a thought...
