Its a really hard decision but right now-i just dont have enough money to support the puppy- and i only get $5 a week! Its hard though because i want a puppy so bad!I know in my heart i should wait but.....

Do you think this is a good descion?what are your opinions on this-and other poeple getting a puppy? Thankyou for your time, answers and support! :)

Sweety, you sound very mature for your age...
you are absolutely making the right decision to wait...puppies love lots of time and attention (and need it) Besides, since this is your first pup you're going to want to spend every second with it..and that may prove distracting from you homework!!
Think about how special it will be though, when you waited and waited, and finally found just that right puppy!! How special will that puppy be to your because you waited so long for him or her.
you are a very smart person, I bet any puppy would be glad to be your new best friend!

You absolutely made the right choice!! Here are my reasons (which are basically reinforcing yours):

1. School comes first, and a new puppy right now would be too distracting and also would require most of your free time. For example, in order to "housebreak" your puppy, you have to be walking him outside a lot until he gets the idea of going to the bathroom there and not in the house.

2. That brings me to this next reason -- not sure where you are living, but it might be too cold out right now to be walking your puppy outdoors. Don't think you can use newspaper on the floor until it gets warmer out because if you do, your puppy will never want to go anywhere else. Or, at the very least, it would make the training period for going to the bathroom outside much longer.

3. Yes, puppies aren't cheap to take care of! Besides the leash, collar, crate, toys and food, don't forget about the vaccinations every year.

So, save your money, do well in school, and before you know it you'll be rolling on the grass with your new lil' buddy, playing catch, snuggling under the covers, and loving every moment ...

Getting a puppy is a huge responsibility. The good news is that it sounds like you are definitely headed in that direction! Waiting until summer is an excellent idea. That will give you the time necessary to properly train your puppy when you get him. In the meantime you can do some research on breeds of dogs and different training techniques so when the time comes you will be ready. Pet food is only one of the expenses in pet ownership. Are your parents supportive and ready to foot the bill for the vet? This is very important for your pup's health and well-being. Talk to them about it. PetSmart has an insurance type program for cats and dogs that includes everything your new dog will need including spaying or neutering when the time comes and emergency visits as well which can be very costly. Good luck and thank you for wanting to be a responsible pet owner!

You sound like a very bright person! If only most adults put as much thought into getting a puppy before hand, there many not be so many dogs in shelters.

Waiting is not only best for you as you will have more time and money, it is much easier to potty train a dog when it is warmer outside. (you will be takin the pup out almost every 1-2 hours at first if you get a 8wkish old puppy).

Good luck!
btw. .. what kinda dog/pup are you looking for?

I think that you answered your own question. You know you should wait. There's another positive to waiting, you won't have to trudge thru tons of snow attempting to house break a puppy! I'd say that's a major positive!

Plus, the longer you wait, the more you'll be sure that this is truly what you want to spend your money on. Just make sure your parents are "on board" with all of this because if the dog bites someone or gets loose, there will be money to pay. Plus, if the dog gets sick, it'll be expensive. Good luck with your new puppy. :)

I would wait I know you want one right now but when your out of school for the summer you will have more time to potty train and spend more time with it. Plus you will have more money for shots and other things that happen you you need to go to the vet. You could got to a shelter and get a good puppy for a decent price and most of them are already fixed so you don't have to worried about later. good luck

I think it is a very good idea to wait until school is out that way you will have plenty of time to potty train your puppy and have fun with it. in the meantime you can read about what kind of dogs you are interrested in and what they need. You will be prepared when you do get the puppy and your puppy will love you for taking the time to learn what he needs. It is very responsible of you to put alot of thought into this. Owning a dog is hard work. Good luck and have fun:)

I think this is a great decision for all of the right reasons. Its good to know that you are thinking ahead and trying to make sure you will be ready.

Your new puppy will take time and energy from you to get trained to be a part of your family. If you have more spare time in the summer then that is a great time to get one.

Have fun and good luck they are tons of fun!

I think you have thought about this for a long time and have come up with a very adult choice.
Yes, wait a bit longer so you can spend your time raising the pup and teaching him or her everything you want.
I know it's hard to wait but you will be very glad you did when you finally get you pup.

You're going to make a wonderful pup owner!
The very best of luck to you!

honestly I wouldnt do it on a SUMMER because thats when everyone is out of school so you're able to spend lots of time with the pup but when school starts they might be confused because the schedule is different.
if u must get it by summer make sure that you have a set schedule make sure they are comfortable being away from you... just so they don't get separation anxiety.
