I dont understand why people choose science or religion. Ive heard so many people on this web site writing about how stupid people are for believeing in God, why? First of all I fail to see how evolution disproves God, and then why are you athiest so hell bent on destroying religion. Do really think that youve found the secret to life and that its your job to enlighten us. Do think that we havent read our biology books and studied Darwin. Explain to me how evolution disporves God, and stop being so high and mighty. My ruling is that religion must stay 500 ft from science at all times

They don't hate each other, they're just ironing out some wrinkles in their relationship.

I understand how you feel. I think that many people see religion as a detriment to the world, and in part they are correct to a degree. Religion has caused allot of problems, but has also been a source of good as well.

The thing is that to many it is not logical that an all powerful loving God would create a world that is a test, that has so much horror and brutality. If he was all powerful there would be no devil, he would have taken care of that. Children being tortured says to me there can't be a god. I can't wrap my brain around a god that would let that happen. Do I know anything for sure? No, but this is what I perceive with what I have observed about life on this planet. I wish/hope there was a god, but logic leads me away from the ritual and mystery.

Science doesn't hate religion. Evolution doesn't disprove God. Atheists aren't hell bent on destroying religion.

It's the religious fundamentalists who set up those dichotomies. We're just doing our best to respond and hold up our part of a conversation. And yes, sometimes we're not always as well-mannered as we should be. Just read how many questions are thoroughly insulting to atheists and you'll begin to see why.

As for your personal knowledge of biology and Darwin, I have no idea. But I have seen plenty of 'creationists' here who claim to understand evolution, but I have yet to read one who actually does.

Evolution doesn't disprove God. It says nothing about origins or anything outside biology.

So stop being so angry and self-righteous. It's not doing your cause any good.

I don't choose science OR religion. I go with my feelings. I've never felt God, never been "blessed with His presence", never even had so much as a dream. So I quit believing.

Evolution doesn't necessarily disprove God anyhow. Who's to say that God didn't just put the earth together with the intent of everything evolving? However, evolution is a fact, and those who deny it are ignorant. People so blindly follow the Bible that they can't interpret what's right in front of them...if you want to believe in God, be my guest, but please don't try and act like the scientists who have gone out to distant islands and have actually SEEN animals evolving over time are lying!

Science doesn't hate religion. Scientists don't care about religion as a rule; they have more important things to worry about. Religion dislikes science because science removes the wonder and mystery of the world. Once something has been explained by science, they can't say "It's God's will."

1) Every day, science is finding natural and materialistic explanations for the universe. This doesn't rule God out, however.

2) Religion is bent on rejecting science in favor of Stone Age creation myths.

They don't. They are folks from two different perspectives trying to prove their case as to the nature of the universe in ways that thier specific descipline is incapable. Some use science, erroneously, to draw conclusions such as "god does not exist" which is a conclusion science is incapable of coming to. On hte other side, your hardcore religious types try to use religion to disprove science, which is not its area of expertise.

In my opinion, science is the "how" of existence, whereas religion is the "why". They are not mutually exclusive, but instead they are complimentary.

Scientists and religious followers both have insatiable human curiosity and the need to explain things. They have diffferent explanations, but they can't seem to live with that. They have to get fanatical and denounce each other's beliefs. The funny thing is, their beliefs change all the time. New religions emerge, new scientific ideas gain merit. I'm with you, they should back off. What's the point of two groups fighting for the truth when no one really knows what the truth is?

I think when you talk about religion and science at each other's throat you are talking about the 3 monotheist religions. I grew up as a buddhist, which doesn't conflict so violently with the scientific community and has collaborated well with the scientific community and has always embraced darwinism. Because one of the key belief in buddhism is impermanence.

I think they hate eachother so much because science proves that there is no God or higher being and everything works for a reason. And religion says that God or another higher being created everything and that it is going to work no matter if you know how or not. Religion makes scientists work seem for nothing. And science make priests work seem for nothing. There will never be a peace until Jesus comes again or Scence "somehow" finds a way that religion is false. But, that's not possble, so o my Goodness, religion prevails.
