Whats the best way to start doing push ups? I can lift weights and and pretty strong, but my upper body is big, and I find it hard to do push ups. I find it hard to do even one.

Whats the best way to start out, or get better, thanks.

not sure what kind of weights you are lifting and can't do a push-up, that makes no sense.

if you can't do a push up then start in the up position and focus on lowering yourself in a slow & controlled manner

and like the other poster stated start doing full push ups on your knees. a regular push up is about 60% of the total body weight so doing them on the knee will be less than that

For starters, your hands should be placed about shoulder width apart, just like when you're lifting weights. Keep your back straight and your toes on the ground then lower yourself and push-up. Once you get the hang of those types of push-ups, then you can vary your hand position.

There are finger-tip (fingers), knuckle, wrist, diamond (tricep/ middle chest area), offset , wide spread , handstand (deltoids & lats), elevated feet and each 1 will work not only your chest but another sspecific area.

hey, if ur strong thats good but can u lift your weight?? what i do is i do 5 pushups every day when i wake up...after school and before i go to bed. once u can do the 5 push ups like no problem do 10 of them at a time DO NOT DO ALOT AT A TIME this makes u not want to do them anymore trust me i was in volly ball our coach made us do over 100 at a time i couldn;t stand it but i can do them now cause im used to it good luck with your push ups!!!

you could try performing them on your knees - so you don't start off supporting your full body weight. Or you may like to perform them (still on your knees) against the seat of a chair, so you are on an angle. The whole point is NOT to support your full body weight right away...you can always do that later on.
