ok, well i've been doing track and cross country for a while now, and some of the things i do to condition and improve for meets are some of these:
*jog about a mile and a half each day-you don't have to beat any records or go fast at all as long as you're running...keep a steady pace
*write down your previous running records and each time you run, try to beat your score-set goals for yourself so you have something to aim for
*maintain a healthy diet...try to eat mostly carbs before races...it helps you not to get cramps and gives you energy
*don't drink gatorade until AFTER the race...that slows you down and drains your energy
*drink plenty of water all the time
...i hope i was able to help you, good luck!! <3 xox

Good news...the great thing about running is that with hard work you will improve. Now on to the "hard work"....
Running improvement takes a gradual increase in stress, followed by rest. Take your longest run in the past 3 weeks, add a mile and run that distance this weekend. If you're just starting out, try the 10-week schedule below to get started.
You'll want to gradually add some hills and speed in after you build a good foundation of weekly mileage. Check out the tips page & running performance page below.
Take your time and keep working at it...you will get better. Best of luck!

If you are really determined in Running faster, i would suggest you either go to the Gym, And run on a treadmill, Or run a mile a day, Your body will get use to runing, And improve, If your overweight i would suggest the same thing to loose weight, IF you are overweight getting skinnier will make you alot faster!
