Because thats what it is. Is the proper term. If you ever go to a dog show you'll hear it left and right. Its a little embarrassing if your not use to it. :) The actual, primary meaning of the word "*****" was a female dog, or more generally a female canine (female wolf, female coyote, and so forth).
The origin of the term is apparently from old Norse, bikkja, or old German bekjon, through Old English, bicce, through Middle English, bicche, to the modern English spelling and pronunciation. In various forms, then, this term for a
female dog has been in use for over a thousand years.

In slang, sometimes for pleasant reasons and some times as derogatory terms about
other people, there is a tendency to use words that come from terms about animals.
So, for example, men have been referred to as pigs ("male chauvinist pigs").
A more pleasant example: children are often referred to as "kids", which actually
means young goats - parallel to the origin of the term "*****" given earlier: kid
is originally from Old Norse, kidh (young goat) or Old German, kidhja, through Middle English kide or kyde, also meaning young goat. I hope this cleared things up for you! :)

The term Bit*c comes from England. I can't remember how far back it goes but it was very, very long ago. Supposedly it is because dogs were always refereed to as Bit*ches and the males Bastar*s ,that because in England at that time was very religious and so frowned upon if a child was born out of wedlock that the term once meant for dogs turned into a slur against the people of that time.

Where the term you asked about came from originally is a mystery. I came to find that out because I was doing research on the Golden breed.

Blame it on the English!

Easy answer.. a male dog is known officially as a DOG.. a Female K9 is known officially as a B*itch.. (really thats the answer) B*itch applying to human femals is only marginally recent historically... Even the sanctioned kennel clubs of all nations know this.. and they still refer to them that way..

its like the difference between a c*ock & a Hen in chickens

I'm really actually suprised that a groomer of 21 years dosent already know this (Please check it.. I insist)

From what I know. They first called the female dogs 'the b word.'
Yet sometimes, being called a dog in general is a put down. Therefore calling people 'the b word' is like calling them a dog. But I guess it's usually used in harsher context and therefore usually considered a cuss word.

Because the "B" word originally meant female dog.

It's not trying to be offensive like people mostly use it... it's kind of like a donkey being referred to as an ***, and thats how the word was originally used in the english language.

A dog in heat is the correct deffination of *****, look it up in a dictionary. people overtime just turned it into a cuss word by using it in slang.
