it simply means that everything has a cost. You may think that you're not giving anything up for a favor but somewhere down the line, you will kinda have to repay it..basically, nothing comes for free

It means that when you get a free lunch from school or where ever and don't have to pay for it, someone still has to make it which cost money to buy the materials such as the sandwich and other side dishes you might have.

Yeah what they said and it could to refer to the real world. Like you have to work to get things (such as lunch). You cant just sit around waiting on someone to bring you something to eat you have to get up and make it happen. Well with welfare and people riding unemployment...the money isn't coming off of trees, it is coming out of the tax paying, hardworkers pockets. Did that make sense to you? Hope it helped
