Usually dogs will learn simple commands. One syllable words are best (such as sit, stay, etc.)
One such command I taught my dog is "Load." This word signifies that it is time to go and get in his crate. At first, this word held no meaning to the dog and I helped guide him to his crate and reward the behavior with a treat. Over time, the dog learned the word and runs to the crate when told to load.
Repetition, consistency and positive reinforcement will help the dog learn how to understand what you want.

He doesn't understand your words. He will however get to know your sounds, facial expressions, body movements and your your interaction with objects. He will combine these to figure out what you mean or want eventually, and when he does you may think that he understands your words. As you can imagine he's actually doing a lot more because he CAN"T understand words!

I think so, They have little souls and develop little personalities, so that makes them sorta like us. I think most people just dont give thier pets enough credit. My cat knows every word that comes out of my mouth. I feel it, he understands me, because he watches me. He knows when i am sad or happy or mad, and knows what to do for each emotion.
Its all in the relationship. Treat your dog like your best bud and you will soon catch him understanding everything you say and feel. Its why they call them mans best friend!
Love your pet! He loves YOU!

Not really.
Dogs though have good hearing can only comprehand vocal commands when trained or it become a habit. It is something like association.
Vocal commands are best used together with hand signals, much more effective.

dogs cannot understand what you say but they do recognize how you say it. if you call his name a different way than you normally do or say a word the same way as when you call him hell get confused. when you give him a command he just connects the sound of your voice to what you taught him to do

canines respond to sounds, no longer inevitably the genuinely "word". in case you repeat the word adequate, and have her do an action linked with that word then the dogs will affiliate the word (or sound of it) to the action and a reward. At 8 weeks old a domestic dog is basically discovering what we, as people, decide for. placed a leash on her and once you're saying come, gently pull on the leash till she gets to you and compliment her - "good come". in case you decide on for her to sit down, say "sit down", placed her in place and say "good sit down". you may desire to persist with each and each word with the action you decide on for from the dogs.

no, he just understands the way in which you say something and the tone you use. not really the words themselves
