look at the Zulu battle.....whilst not so much a win for the Brits [we got our butts whipped] but the Zulus who are a very brave and wonderful group of men, actually stepped back and let the last few remaining men live as they had thought they was battling a far greater army of men and numbers and when the Zulus realised JUST how few they had been fighting for several days the did the most ethical and honorable thing I have ever seen a victor do which was step back and allow the remaining men live

Probably the best kill ratio would be the Battle of Crecy (Aug.26, 1346).
12,000 English decimated 40,000 French.
The French were mainly men-at-arms (knights), the English had longbows that cut them to ribbons before the French even came close.
The "most deseperate" might be the Battle of the Bulge. The 101st Airborne, heavily outnumbered with little ammo and even less rest, was one of the few forces available to contain the German advance was rushed forward by truck to defend the vital road junction of Bastogne. Famously, Brigadier General Anthony McAuliffe answered the German demand for surrender with the reply "To the German Commander: NUTS! -The American Commander" and the division fought on until the siege was lifted and the German advance halted.

Gideon started out with 30,000 men to fight the Mideanites, an army of several thousand battle hardened soldiers. God said to send anyone away who was afraid and 22,000 men left. Then God told Gideon to take his men down to the water and let them drink. Those who lapped up the water with their tongues like dogs were made to leave because they were not wary of their surroundings. This left 300 men to fight. They surrounded the camp of the Mideanites and woke them by blowing trumpets and shining torches in the night and shouting loud. The Midianites were so confused they started fighting each other. Gideon's army won without losing one soldier of their own.
