No and there were also several men I would have preferred to leave behind.
When I went to Bosnia in 96, there were 3 soldiers assigned as gunners who could not charge the MK 19 grenade launcher without assistance from another person. two were women, one a guy.
I don't care who you are. If you can't do the job, get out.

Before i met my husband i was all for it. Thought that if the women wanted to and could keep up with the men and handle the pressure than they should be able to be right on the frontlines. However having met my husband and seen his side of things i say no. Not because it's going to disrupt order and morale, not because they are going to be sleeping with each other and making the wives back home worry but because women in combat with men would "put the men in danger". I know that's not a good way of saying that since war is dangerous and people die but look at it this way. The army infantry unit is run by squads (a group of four to five guys per humvee or vechicle) they are a team that train together and go out on missions together. House clearing, assults, patrols, ect they are a team and they know each other's moods habits and can predict the moves they'll make in certain situtations. You toss a girl in a close knit group of married guys and at least one of them is going to see her as a sister or a mom they are going to want to protect her. Now imagine the squad got captured the guys would be going crazy to protect the woman, they would give up sensitive information, and even potentially take on armed guys though themselves would be unarmed (basically committing sucide) to try to protect her. And even if they didn't do those things the enemy could torture the woman in front of them which is something that some guys would never recover from. It's hard to get soldiers back from seeing their squad tortured and them being tortured much less a woman. When i think of those things i don't think woman have a place in combat roles with men. All women units sure, but not mixed squads. If it were to happen i would want every woman issueed a side arm so they could decide whether they would allow themselves to be captured. I for one wouldn't. A 9mm round to the head would be preferrable to torture and risking being used against my squad, but then i wouldn't go into a combat role with men anyway.

Let me answer from a unique perspective, a former member of the military and a woman. In Canada where I am from women are allowed in all trades with the exception of submarines (I believe this will change soon). I have slept with my fellow brothers and sisters at arms, ate with them, fought with them and even buried a few (an unfortunate side of "peacekeeping"). And I can say we bring no more chance of death to our comrades then any other member of the squad. I find it ironic that if a man risks his life for a fellow male soldier it is considered heroic but if it is for a woman it is because "he felt he had to". After over twenty years of this policy being in place and it truly have been tested in the last five I think we have proved that it works, it is good, and it should continue.

YES!!!!
Women want equal rights? Welcome to equality, baby!!
They want to complain when they earn less per hour but when it is time to "save the women and children first" they usually stay quiet.
I am a women's rights activists worst nightmare. I am all for equality, get up there and catch bullets like the rest of us to pay for your rights.
