Well, I am going to have the "redneck" approach to this... When I was preg with my 2 boys, people told my husband he must have not been man enough to "knock the balls off of it" and it be a girl.. so once again, it must be a mans fault...lol He finally "knocked the balls off" the 3rd one and I got my girl..lol
Now being serious. It has something to do with sperm, X Y, swimming speed.. whole 9. And I have heard too, that the females body temp can play a factor in it . How true that is, I dont know. Peace!!

The child will get 1/2 of the mothers genes and 1/2 the fathers genes, totaling 46 pairs. One of the pairs, "X" and "Y", are the sex chromosomes. The mother carries two "X" chromosomes, the father carries "X" and "Y" chromosomes.
The father determines the sex of the baby...if he gives an "X" chromosome, the baby will have "XX" and will be a girl. If he gives a "Y" the baby will have "XY" and will be a boy.
Hope this is what kind of answer you were looking for!

An X chromosome is contributed by the female and is found in the egg (ovum) from her ovary
Either an X or a Y is contributed by the male. They are found in his sperm.
Sperm and egg get together, each contribute 1 sex chromosome:
XX is female
XY is male
It would seem that a sperm from the male "wins" the race and determines the baby's sex but it may be that it is the egg that somehow "invites" in the winning sperm.
Pretty cool

At ten weeks, the fetus has an "Indifferent Penis" Meaning it can be a boy or a girl, the sex has not been outwardly determined. An Indifferent Penis looks like a penis without testicles and has a hole in the center, which inverts into a vagina if the sex is female. I hope this helps.

From the moment the sperm meets the ovum the sex has already been determined.............the sperm determines the sex.....NOTHING ELSE..........1/2 of the man's sperm carry a female chromosome and the other half carry a male chromosome.........and which ever one reaches the ovum first is what you get !

Here's my understanding of it. Male sperm includes both male and female sperm. The males swim fast and die quickly. The female, swim slowly but live a few days. If the egg is present, obviously it's more like a male will penetrate the egg. If you have sex and a day or two later ovulate only girl eggs are left. Ta da!

The baby is inherently female. The mother's body has to produce enough testosterone at the right time in development to make it a male. If not, you have a girl.
