Before paint my baseboards, (wooden, preprimed) what should I use to fill the nail holes, caulk, wood putty, etc? When I caulk it, it seems to dry and shrink, then when I paint it, it sticks out.

if u use calk, use a silicone calk that will expand and contract with the seasons, they come in colors, and some are paintable. for the holes, use the type of wood filler that dries flexible, so it wont shrink up and pop out.

I am a painting contractor in the luxury home market , and if the wood is pre primed we fill and sand the nail holes before applying the topcoat, we use shrink free spaclke ...Dap makes a good one, slightly overfill the nail holes as even the shrink free actually shrinks a little, when dry lightly sand them flush , then top coat, use a good enamel we use benjamin moore satin impervo.
