I am doing some research for a friend of mine who was just recently diagnosed with Prostrate Cancer. He has seen a doctor and has been given the option of Seed implantation, Cryotherapy, or surgery. He does not want surgery right now. And the doctor is ok with that as long as he does not wait too long.
Has anyone gone through Seed implantation or Cryotherapy that can offer their experience or advice. Anything would be very helpful right now.

I just went through surgery in August 2006. I was diagnosed in February 2006. I had the robotic surgery and was in and out of the hospital in 2 days. I have a Friend who had the Cyrotherapy done and he's now having to have radiation. I have not had to have any follow up treatments and my PSA tests have been zero since the surgery. If you do the radiation or Cryotherapy options, you limit your follow up treatment options. If your freind is a surgery candidate, surgery is the best option in my opionion. This web site http://www.prostatecancerfoundation.org is a great source of information. Visit it, read it. Print out the guide. It has questions to ask the doctors and discusses all the treatment options. I highly recommend the robotic surgery method. Be sure you find a doctor with as much surgery experience as possible. I changed doctors for this very reason. Let them learn on someone else. This is a very treatable disease, if caught early on. Don't let your freind wait too long for treatment and don't over look the power of prayer.

Dear Karen....

It's PROSTATE not "prostrate"! LOL!

And if you are going to get cancer, this is one that you can live with if you have some common sense. Prostate cancer typically metasticizes so slowly that if you are a man over 70, they often do NOTHING since you will die of old age before it really hurts you.

If the patient is a young man, then seed implantation is an excellent idea. Tiny sources of radiation are implanted into the patient, and the radiation targets the cancerous cells in the prostate.

To quote the hospitals: "This non-surgical outpatient procedure takes only about an hour to perform. According to medical studies, it is as effective as surgery or conventional radiation therapy but has fewer and milder side effects. Some patients may experience minimal soreness and slight bleeding, as well as more frequent urination, but that usually resolves quickly with time. A major benefit of the new treatment is that the percentage of patients who experience impotence and incontinence is greatly reduced. Many men choose seed implant therapy because it causes the least disruption to their lives with cure rates equal to radical prostatectomy"

My husband had seeds implanted Four years ago . He followed up with eight weeks of radiation. He goes back for a check up once a year now and has been cancer free for four years. It was a good choice for him . Good luck to your friend and tell him to hang in there because there is hope for a good out come.

Search for answers by looking outside of the medical field, in the area of alternative medicine. There are hundreds of methods to heal the body, and drugs only suppress the issue (not heal it). Most disease issues are internal because the blood carries toxins that accumulate in the body. The system needs to be cleansed (colon and liver especially), and given nutrition.

Cleansing the body is a method Ive seen done many times with success and it doesn't matter how old you are. We must remove toxins. One strategy is detoxifying with herbs, water, and juice fasting. One must educate oneself.

There are many other good books about surviving this disease, and you should know about this option, even if you choose to go the traditional route with it's abysmal prognosis. Best of luck.
