Does anyone know a Viking Burial Prayer?

Yes. I'm Asatru. (I practice what some call the "Viking religion")

In this time of our grief
We call upon the Gods of the Norse
In the holiest names of Odin, Allfather, Lord of the Gallows, ferryman of the dead, I call thee - show the way to the worlds beyond.
Frigga, in thy sunken hall, hear my voice.
Thor, Mighty Thunderer, Friend and protector of humankind, be with us - lend your Hammer's holy might.
Heimdall, open Asgard's gate; worthy steps shall sound soon on thy bridge.
Frey, bring frith to the mound: fair lives within, and friendship to the living.
Freya, bear the mead forth: well should you greet your guest, and roomy-seated is your hall.
Idunna, here is one worthy to eat of your apples: I ask you to grant that food freely.
Disir and Alfar, greet your kinsmen kindly.
All ye shining ones, gods, goddesses, and wights, hail [insert name] who comes among you; Receive [his or her] soul,
One whom we have loved dearly
[He or She] will be sorely missed.

It is said in Havamal by the Old Man himself- "Cattle die, kinsmen die, and you yourself shall die."
One thing I know which never dies - the memory of those who are truly loved.


Yet we know full well that the ancient sagas say
That those who are truly worthy
Shall return in time to family, to friends
And to [his or her] own folk
And we know that [insert name] was the worthiest of them all.
Physical Death is not the end of life.
The dead become unborn, and enter into a state where they may find rest, after which healing and renewing energy for rebirth into a new life occurs.


May [insert name] be born again at the same time and the same place as those who knew and love [him or her] so very much in this life.
May [his or her] soul be protected by Thor wherever [he or she] travels in the Nine Worlds.
May [he or she] have good fortune and passage to Asgard
And may the journey be short and easy.
May [his or her] spirit help and guide those who remain,
May [his or her] soul find peace and joy
And in the best of company
In halls of Asgard
This we pray.
In this world and the next,
In Asgard or Midgard,
In life and in death,
Together always,
Beyond all time and space -
You will always be remembered,
