Top 10 Inexpensive Champagnes and Sparkling WinesFrom
When buying champagne for a crowd, the last thing you want to do is break the bank. Yet navigating between the budget champagnes that are drinkable, and those that are just vile swill, can be a hard task. Here are 10 inexpensive champagnes and sparkling wines - most are under $20.
1) Roederer Estate Brut, Anderson Valley (Approx. $20). This delicious California sparkler starts off toasty and nutty, then reveals its flavors of citrus, green apple, and pear. Incidentally, Roederer are also the people who make the champagne of choice for celebrities, Cristal, making this truly the rock-star champagne for the rock-bottom price.
2) Mumm Napa Brut Prestige, Napa Valley (Approx. $16)
A crisp, dry sparkling wine, with aromas of melon and citrus.
Printed Wine Glass $1.59
3) Non Vintage Barefoot Bubbly California Premium Extra Dry
(Approx. $9)
You can't beat the price on this California champagne with a silly name. But this sweet chardonnay champagne will please even those who prefer extra dry wines. With the flavors of bread, honey, and citrus, both the wine AND the name are sure to be conversation starters.
4) Argyle 2000 Brut (Approx. $19). One of the most respected sparkling wines in this country, this champagne features coveted small bubbles and hints of citrus and green apple. A sophisticated wine, it's fruity with only a hint of sweetness.
5) Korbel Sparkling Natural Chardonnay ($12.99). Chardonnay champagne is a relatively new category – combining America's favorite wine with the celebration of champagne. Very drinkable, only the true oenophiles will find this wine a little too sweet.
6) Gruet Brut Blanc de Blancs (Approx. $13). I don't think of New Mexico as a great wine state, but this winery has been getting some good buzz, particularly for this affordable sparking wine. Its mature taste has a core of pear, apple and hazelnut flavors.
7) Martini & Rossi Prosecco (Approx. $12.99). Most people don't think of prosecco as an option for wedding toasts, but it is a lovely, gently sparkling wine. This is a drinkable clean and crisp sparkler with a mix of bread and fruity peach, apple, and melon notes.
8) Freixenet Brut Nature (Approx. $9). Another region of the world that shouldn't be ignored is Spain. Their version of champagne is called cava, and can be a terrific value for the money. Freixenet makes some of the best cavas, and this one is very dry and smooth, with a mineral complexity.
9) Small Splurge: Veuve Clicquot Non Vintage Brut Yellow Label (Approx. $34). Veuve Clicquot offers a refreshingly smooth and creamy texture with a toasty finish. Not too sweet for the wine connoisseur, but not too dry for the novice. It's a little bit more than the other wines listed here, but it's not as bank breaking as Cristal or Dom Perignon. In my opinion, it's worth the splurge.
10) Small Budget: Cook's Grand Reserve California Champagne (Approx. $5). By far the most drinkable of the budget champagnes, you can sometimes find it on sale for as little as $2.50 a bottle, making it perfect for large parties and non-champagne drinkers. It's dry with a mild fruityness with overtones of vanilla.

I love great champagnes such as Bollinger and Taitinger but Champagnes are pricey, instead there are some Italian sparklers that a quite good prosecco's that mostly dry (as far i have tasted) or asti spumante's that semi-sweet. Some decent sparklers comin from California and Oregon as well.
Am sure that your mom will know that you gift comes from the heart and she will value your company more than the fizz. Ask the wine store to recommend something $30-40. Another thrill in wine drinking is discovering good wines at modest prices.

'Champagne' is a sparkling wine from a region in France. French champagne is quite expensive and I find a lot of the Italian Astis are really good. If you want to go all out go for a Moet & Chandon approx AU$110. I find a really good (and cheap) one is Riccadonna about $20Au. Probably my favourite is a little harder to get but it is well worth it, Mondoro, in a green bottle. A tip for sparklign whites, crush some fresh strawberries and put a teaspoon in the glass, it will fizz up. a lot of fun and tastes great although wine conneseurs may disagree :o)

Champagne is a wonderful treat...and can be quite expensive! My favorite of all time is Peirre Jouet in the flowered bottle, circa 1995. You can certainly find others not nearly as expensive as this one though. Go online to a Vinters webpage and see what they recommend in the $30 range.

Champagne with orange juice is called a Mimosa. Balletore is reasonably priced and tastes decent. It's probably under $8 a bottle.
"Dry" means less sweet, so if you like a sweet champagne, get one that ISN'T dry.

1999 Louis Roederer Cristal Brut. It's about $600 for a 1.5 L magnum. She'd love it!
